I think the real story here is that Reilly is has dropped nine points versus Deval Patrick for the Dem primary.  I think some Republicans would welcome a Healey-Patrick race instead of a Healey-Reilly one.

But doesn't Reilly want to ban gay marriage? screw him then, I'd rather have a Republican in office. I wish Weld would run here instead of New York.

I doubt you have a serious chance at retaining the governorship either way.

no. reilly has *changed* his position on gay marriage.  he now says he supports it.

christy mihos is planning on running as an independent.  rumors are that kerry healey offered mihos the running mate slot on her ticket, which he declined.

Why's that?  Republicans have held the governorship for 16 years.  Massachusetts voters still want an executive check on the sometimes out of control Legislature.

The serious wrinkle in Healey's plans right now is Mihos.  If he runs as a Republican and pours a ton of his own cash into his campaign, that could spell trouble.  Alternately, if he runs as an independent and does the same, he'll probably take more votes from Healey than from Reilly or Patrick.

Well thats good to hear I guess, but it might be election year manuevering.

Seriously though, Massachusetts is one place where I would really like to see the Republicans hold the Governor's office. If Utah can elect Tim Matheson then MA should be able to elect at least one republican, just to provide some checks as Kobi said.

To be sure, the looneys in the Massachusetts legislature need some checks on them.

However, without Mitt Romney, the Republicans will be losing this Governorship.

Walter

Approve of the Governor.  Great guy, and an electable Republican in RI.

I know, there aren't many electable Republicans in RI, but the Governor is one.

Feb/06 poll by Brown University, if the race for Governor is Carcieri v Fogarty

Gov Don Carcieri (R)                  46%
Lt. Gov Charles Fogarty (D)       35%
