AN ACT
to prevent anti-labor screening

Section 1 (Title)
i. The title of this act shall be, the "Fair Labor Hiring Act."

(a) Unionized employers having entered into a "closed shop" agreement with one or more unions shall be exempt from the provisions of this act.

Sponsor: Harry S Truman, FM (Fianna Frémont—Labor, North Dakota)

Simple enough. It is the constitutional right of all Frémonters to unionize, and it is the right of every citizen to hold whatever opinion they want on the subject —whether supportive or antagonistic. The practice of employers "screening" for potential organizers during the hiring process is one method of enforcing blacklisting and a roundabout way of subverting our Frémontian Constitution. I've included §3(i-a) to protect employers from being prosecuted for complying with the terms of a standing labor agreement.

I really don't see a reason to oppose the bill. It's simple, common sense, and doesn't defile the rights of Frémont employers or citizens. Expect my support.

This is fine, though I personally would have preferred that this was folded into a previous labor rights bill. No objections from my corner.

It's an old first ministers' trick for increasing activity. Wink

Since when are we allowing closed shops? Because I object to that, though the rest of the bill is absolutely fantastic.

While I'm also not a fan of closed shops, I don't think that consideration is relevant to this bill. While I'm not completely versed in Frémont labor policy, I think disallowing closed shops is an entirely distinct conversation.

Yes, this bill merely recognizes the current existence of closed shops; it takes no position on them itself per se, that being a conversation for another day.
