This is England: More good TV drama than good cinema tbh (yes, I do think there is a difference). Also too pop-psychology for my tastes though some the scenes are nicely done.

The Sixth Sense. A great movie with a great story. My only criticism is that there could have been more ghosts.

Half Nelson

Lars and the Real Girl

Both were very good (especially Half Nelson). Ryan Gosling is an extremely talented actor and at times he can be hilarious in that awkward sort of way.

Yup. And I liked it, even if it was far from von Trier's best work, imo.

The Bicycle Thief is great as well, probably my favourite Italian movie.

Pay It Forward. A very emotional movie, with a great message, and a really depressing ending.

I'd seen Lars and the Real Girl and thought it was decent, but I hadn't seen Half Nelson so after reading this I downloaded it. It was thoroughly great, so thanks Tongue

No problem. Tongue

Hard Candy

Spring Break has certainly given me the chance to watch some movies that I've meaning to watch for some time. This was pretty entertaining.

I appreciated it, but it's not something you want to watch over again. It seemed after awhile that the main thing is not that he lost his bicycle or even his job but that he has lost face in front of his son.

Well that and more importantly that his family could very well end up starving to death.

People starved to death in late 1940s Italy? The beginning of the movie implied there were lots of unemployed people who got welfare, they went hungry but did not starve to death.

I'm sure some people did. Perhaps in this case it is hyperbole but this is the case that he makes to his son at dinner in the movie (if I'm remembering correctly).

I thought he was making the case that they would be able to eat well if they had money, but not that they would starve to death if they didn't. Oh well, the translation wasn't very good.

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. The only good part of the first one was Willem Defoe, everything else was atrocious. Now take out Willem Defoe and make everything else worse...

I could've done without Willem Dafoe in drag too...

Do you dread the next potential installment as much as I do?

I wasn't aware there was going to be another one. Hopefully it comes out after I'm gone from college so I don't have to hear about it or be around anyone who'll subject me to its horrors....

I felt like the last ten or fifteen minutes laid the groundwork for it.

At least your friends didn't drag you half an hour to the only theater that was playing it.

Dead Ringers

Excellently queasy and coldly clinicly - probably misanthropic but in a good way. In short, one of Cronenberg's better works. Jeremy Irons is brilliant (he needs a better agent) as the two twins. OThe fact that Jmfsct hates this movie makes me like it more.

Naked Lunch

Yes I am a Cronenberg binge at the moment. I think this is not one of his stronger efforts (of the 'old' Cronenberg) perhaps I think because he plays it a little too straight so it doesn't come quite weird enough for me (or rather it was weird in the incorrect places). Cool typewriter effects though and Peter Weller and Joan Davis are really special here.

Xahar: you should be glad you get to see Almodovar. But sad that you didn't get to see one of his more acclaimed works. Although, I've been wanting to catch that one for quite a while.

The last film I saw was Woyzeck, by Herzog, based on the play by Büchner. I really liked it, very short and very intense but also very cool.
