I liked Avatar more than I probably should've because it was basically left wing propaganda and took the position that it's perfectly acceptable to brutally kill mercenaries who happen to work for a bad employer (which I don't disagree with.)

I saw two yesterday.

Get Real and Nixon. Both enjoyable movies.

The last movie I watched was "Get Real" as well, but I don't know if we're on the same page..

I saw that movie years ago. I only remember a couple of scenes, but it was depressing compared to Beautiful Thing, a similar movie that was released around the same time. The latter is one of my all time favorites.

For some reason the first time I watched Beautiful Thing I thought it was mediocre and didn't know what all the fuss was about. I thought I judged it a little too harshly, so I watched it a second time pretty recently, and liked it alot more than I did the first time. Go figure.

It was a much more hopeful and uplifting film, while Get Real, as its title suggests, was too pessimistic and sad.

Avatar and The Hangover....both were WAY WAY over-rated as I had suspected.  Avatar looked like a cartoon and was at least an hour too long....and preachy...I guess it was pretty.  The Hangover had like, maybe 10 funny things happen in it and I saw 7 of those in the previews for it.  And I LOVE Ed Helms.

After being disapointed by The Wedding Crashers, I've passed on seeing The Hangover.

I didn't like Wedding Crashers either.  The Hangover was better.  They both fall far below things like Superbad or Half Baked.

Bad Lieutenant (2009).

Meh. The iguanas/"soul dancing" scene were of course hilarious and inspired but the rest of the movie made me shrug my shoulders - perhaps I just wanted something alot weirder than what I got.

I saw Avatar last night on DVD so I missed the 3 D aspect. It was a very mixed bag. I give it a B.

Mystery Team.

Was pretty funny for the most part. Didn't hold up the whole way through, the last third was the weakest.

I absolutely love both of those movies.  The Hangover was absolutely awesome, and so was The Wedding Crashers.  I couldn't stop laughing during both of those.

The Killer Inside Me

I lost interest pretty quickly and basically took a mind rest for an hour and a half. Serial Killer films just don't interest me... especially if they are full of Freudian cliches and are pseudo-provocative like this. Pointless.

Network

Best film I've seen in a while.

Good man.

Well, at the time it was made, TV executives hadn't decided that the things done at UBS in Network ought to be a blueprint for the future of television.

Vertigo (1958)

Certainly the best Alfred Hitchcock film I've seen but am I the only one who thinks his 'obsessions' and themes are not as interesting as commonly supposed? Or did I miss something on this first viewing?

Jesus Christ Superstar.

Not much of a musical guy but i enjoyed it. The film should have been treated when it was released, oh well. I heard they are remaking it, as long as Zack Effron's not in it I'll be happy.

Judgement at Nuremberg (1961) - The court scenes were riveting, great acting. Everything else that took place outside the courtroom was typical old movie hokum and not worth watching. Burt Lancaster did a good job, but Maximilian Schell was amazing and turned in a great acting job as the German defense attorney. Bill Shatner was humorous as a young Army aide.

Shutter Island

Really terrific. The story and performances are great, and I love how the setting of the story and the events that unfold add the mystery of not being able to know whether what you're seeing is some hallucination or if that crazy person is lying or not until the very end. The last scene was also really smartly done and a nice final twist.

And of course Scorsese's direction is magnificent, and you could tell, from the music and cinematography and design, that he had a specific and defined vision for the film.
