The Trotsky

I have no idea how I feel about that movie. I could write up until the post limit about how confused I feel about what the hell that film's message actually was, but I don't think I'd entertain anyone but myself. Tongue I love Jay Baruchel, but that film misses so many opportunities to actually make itself clear.

Tree of Life - absolutely awful.  I cannot understand how people think it's a good film.

Some people can appreciate great cinematography and film making.

Channel 4 were showing Brassed Off and there was nothing else on, so I watched it. As always I'm reminded that while its certainly not a great work of art (and the plot is even more screwy than I remember), its heart is very much in the right place and a couple of performances were actually pretty good (Postlethwaite especially, but that goes without saying). More to the point (and the real reason I watched it) hearing the hilariously awful attempts at Yorkshire accents from the non-Northern cast members remains a truly delightful experience.

And some people don't find computer images, long digressions of no relevance, and artsy for the sake of artsy to be worthwhile.

I re-watched My Left Foot after like 20 years.  Day Lewis and Fricker definitely deserved their Oscars.

Super 8

Very good. It really did remind me of Monster Squad.

Tree of Life. Pretty amazing, although I can see why people would not find it an easy watch. In some ways remniscient of 2001.

I found 2001 to be much more enjoyable, personally.

"Eat Pray Love"

Starred Julia Roberts and James Franco. An overall terrible movie. I was legitimately depressed after watching it. It was very long, not exciting at all, and it always seemed dark. I guess if you need to put on a movie to help you fall asleep, this would be perfect.

Requiem for a Dream.  We saw it at the theater when it came out a decade or so ago, but I found it last weekend on CD at a garage sale for two dollars, so I figured I'd watch it again.

Transformers. It was better than the second installment, but that's like saying a cavity filling is better than a root canal.

I saw Horrible Bosses tonight - a great, entertaining show. Extremely funny. It topped Hangover 1 and 2 for me.

How hard is it to top Hangover 2?

You're right, I just lumped the two together. I'd rate it above Hall Pass even, neck and neck with Easy A.

Black Swan.  Very nice!  I'm a bit of a Natalie Portman fan and she's excellent in it.
