Gran Torino

I liked it, too (despite some flaws).

I recommend all four; though probably some knowledge of 20th Century Italian politics is a must before seeing Il Divo; that and a tolerance of surrealist unclear political references and gnomic remarks made by politicans (it's a film about the life of Andreotti). It is still probably good; but don't ask me what exactly was going on all the time.
The preview was certainly promising.

Der Knochenmann

I've seen the first of the Brenner movies, and read all of the books. There was a second movie adaption in between that I missed completely.

They changed a LOT - more like cooked a stew out of most of the original plot ingredients, and some new ones - but at least they did that pretty well.

Oh yah, the final line of the credits was great. "We guarantee that no animals were injured, no animals or humans were killed and no humans were devoured during the making of this movie."

EDIT: Fixed link.

Il Divo.

Highly enjoyable... except that you need to know at least as much about Italy's first Republic as I do to understand it.

Though if this DVD:

counts as a movie, then I've seen it afterwards.

True Romance, 1993 Tarantino film. Excellent classic.
Excellent, yes. Tarantino, sort of.

He authored the original script, but it got changed around so much by director Tony Scott (among minor plot changes - plot additions, mostly - the Tarantino script has lots of Pulp-Fiction style time jumps to and fro, while the eventual movie is perfectly linear) as to hardly be describable as a "Tarantino film".

The Limits of Control.

A nothing plot - I don't think Jarmusch has been this plotless since Stranger than Paradise. Some cool imagery. Some cool quotes. A bit long.

District 9 - I didn't think it was good.  The plot seemed jumpy, and was more concerned with non-stop violence than any real story.

Really? I thought it was a great concept. I can't really talk about it out loud because someone might want to see it though.
Don't worry. It'll be two months til they've shipped enough copies over here and dubbed four fifths of them. And they won't evne care that I'll presumably look for a not dubbed one.

Not for the first time (fourth, I think... but it's been years and years) but I saw Black Cat White Cat last night (outdoors, but on a big cinema screen) and pity anyone who has never seen it. My. favorite. comedy. ever.

And now I'll be off seeing inglorious basterds.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1128075/

Check the "plot keywords" section to get an approximate feel at just how grandly wonderfully absurd the movie is. Hilariously funny at times (mostly in the first two hours). Belonging to the horror genre at others.
(I think the "based on a true story" claim at the very beginning is bogus, though.)

Looking for Eric. And as with most of Ken Loach's movies, some parts of the plots stunk. But as with every single one that I've seen, the end product was great anyways.

Oh, and Laura Ainsworth is 18 and delectable.

Next movie on my list: Die Anwälte

Well, three never-before-seen movies in less than 24 hours. Although two of them were only half watched and on a tiny screen: Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets and Die Harder.

And just now I've seen Where the Wild Things Are on the big screen.

What'd you think? I hope it wasn't dubbed, that strikes me as the type of movie where a lot of the meaning would be lost in translation, not to mention some of the excellent voice acting.
No, it was dubbed.

Well dubbed, I think (without seeing the original, so take that with a grain of salt.) Bit funny seeing the original speakers' names in the credits, of course. Smiley

Yeah, I quite liked it.

In Cinemas:

Saturday:

Fish Tank

Good, very well made (acting, directing, etc). Have to admit the story didn't really get to me. Maybe it's some kind of gender-narrowmindedness on my part.

Heh, that's in cinemas here now, and I'm thinking of going.

Has anyone heard of Four Lions?
It's not showing here (at least not so far Sad ) but I just read about it, and I'd certainly want to see it.

Machete. OMG. See this movie. One minute it's a welldone satire of the US immigration debate, next minute it's an uber-violent gory slasher, next minute it's back to satire again.

Technically doesn't count since I saw in cinema when it was released. Which was before it was put on the Index. Which I was rather shocked to discover. But I watched Ravenous last night. Twice in a row. It is that good.
Basically, I would not consider this a horror movie at all. It is an arthouse movie... with levels of gore more common of "hard" horror movies. And a subject matter not for the faint of heart. But that's not usually sufficient grounds for getting on the index... not by 1999.
