Vanished.

OK movie.  Wierd seeing Kiefer Sutherland and Sandra Bullock so young.

Watch the original. It's miles better.

Videodrome

I watched it at 2 in the morning, and... what a mindfuck it was. Long live the new flesh!

oh, and the Criterion Collection DVD (which I happen to own Wink) is superb. Incredible packaging, great transfer, and a mountain of extras. Criterions don't come cheap, but they're worth it.

Seen A history of Violence?

I have, but I didn't really like it. I found it to be one of the most overrated films of that year. It didn't really get to me in any way.

Here I was thinking I was the only one.... Cronenberg's best is the old stuff imo.

Actually, no... I never got around to seeing that. I've seen most of his films, and all of them are excellent (especially The Fly). I should check out AHoV to see how it compares to the greats.

I agree. I didn't actually mind A History Of Violence, but it doesn't compare to Scanners or Videodrome.

Well, I haven't seen any Cronenberg apart from that. I kind of got the impression that HoV got its reviews mainly from his name, the sort of "it's Cronenberg, so there has to be a really deep message somewhere in there" thing that can happen with movies occassionally (not restricted to him, of course).

Pan's Labrinyth - It was not what I thought it would be.  Very cool, but very violent (and very Spanish).

I just got back from 'The Last King of Scotland'. Very intriguing character studies. Whew.

The Man who would be King - a rerun at a local cinema. Fairly Impressive cast but all together not one of the better films to come out of the 70s.

the Last King of Scotland

Great movie, Forrest Whittaker also did a terrific job playing Idi Amin.

The Queen. Not as good as I expected, somewhat bad in the end. But it got better as it went along. I felt the guy playing Tony Blair was a little lacking. He didn't really strike me as convincing.

Annie Hall - that movie really gets better every time I watch it. But should I be worried by the fact that I can identify with Woody Allen's character?

K-PAX. Wow, how did I ever miss that movie? I mean, I know I only saw the "edited" version on Sci-Fi but edited or not, it was pretty dern good.

Oh and I also saw National Lampoons Van Wilder on comedy...it was funny but cheesy. Smiley

The Science of Sleep.

A totally bonkers yet great romanticesque dream film (it's the only way I can describe it.)
