Avatar. Awesome special & visual effects, and the plot is OK. Not the best film I've seen, though.

All the 3D/CGI wizardry in the world can't cover up what is an unsurprising, unoriginal story.
A very average film.

No Country for old men (2007)

The best picture of the 2000s, imho.

Jennifer's Body.

It was kind of meh and no real Megan Fox nudity.

Other than the lesbian kissing, it was terrible. Big disappointment.

I think Diablo Cody's writing style failed to be charming now too. While arguing "no one talks like that" for Juno was pretty dumb and much like arguing the same for Brick, here it came across as too ridiculous "Cheese with fries" as an expression for surprise?

Please note I like her blog and her writings for the City Pages, which is basically the same style.

Watchmen- What a terrible movie.  The choice in music throughout was laughable, cliched and distracting- so much so that I must ask was this the intent?  I fell asleep about 15 minutes from the end. Dont really care how it ended anyway.  Was I supposed to care about any of these characters?  I was waiting for the nukes to be launched so it would finally stop.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The original movie, not the TV show.

I could see why it didn't do so well and why Joss Whedon disliked the direction of his script. It was made at the wrong time. A few years earlier or a few years later (like the TV series) and it could've captured the point, but it basically was like Beverly Hills 90210 with vampires due to the time of its creation.

Just watched the new Amityville Horror on TV.  Eh...nothing special but not bad.  Not really scary though.  Oh yeah, that reminds me I saw Paranormal Activity a while ago which was the first movie in a while to make me nervous after watching it.  I had to go to the bathroom after it and was totally paranoid.  But the ending was totally predictable.

The Book of Eli. Awesome. Cool twist at the end.

Edge of Darkness. Classic Mel Gibson.

Final Fantasy Advent Children

Good example of some CGI advantages, a lot of those action sequences would've been impossible live action. However the plot was rather difficult to follow, and the dubbed voice acting was very weak. Biggest problem though is you can't condense the plot of anything like FFVII with all of its characters into a 90 minute movie, that's why most characters had basically what amounted to cameos.

Koyaanisqatsi

Has anyone else here seen this film?  Quite the rarity, but it's very interesting.  The "narrative" is crafted entirely in visuals and music.  There is no dialogue; it's like a multi-dimensional symphony.  Koyaanisqatsi is a Hopi word meaning "life out of balance," and the film attempts to portray modern technological society as such.  If anything the film is enfeebled by the fact it was made in the 1980s, and thus the technology that seemed overwhelming back then seem rather mild now.

I saw An Education the other day. Really good, I thought, with great performances from pretty much the entire cast, especially Alfred Molina and Carey Muligan. It's a coming of age tale disguised as a romance. The costumes, cinematography and art direction were also beautiful.

From Paris With Love.

If you liked Taken you'll love this one. Same director and cinematographic style. Loved the "royal with cheese" reference too.
