V for Vendetta

The best film I've seen since the last Lord of the Rings. Very well done, thought provoking, and interesting. A monumental film.

Miami Vice

Absolutely horrible movie. The plot was slow and boring, Colin Farrell could turn Gone With the Wind into a piece of sh**t with his acting skills, and for an action movie there was only any sort of action in the last 15 minutes of a two and a half hour movie. Possibly one of the worst films I've seen this year.

The Illusionist, which was quite good and very interesting. I'd give it about 8 out of 10.

Also watched one of my favourite Bond movies, From Russia With Love, and finally was able to watch all of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which I really didn't care for. Besides Bond having to cry a bit at the end its still the same fluffy romp as later Bond movies, ie late Connery and Moore Bonds.

Still my top 5 would be:

1. From Russia With Love
2. The Living Daylights
3. Casino Royale
4. Goldeneye
5. Goldfinger

I saw Curse of the Golden Flower today. Why must every Chinese film contain horribly fake martial arts?

I think its been a law in Chinese cinema since the success of Croaching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, though some are more realistic than others though.

How was it other than the wire-fighting?

Valentine.  Horrible idea for a movie, horrible acting, yet somehow highly entertaining.

I'm tempted to go to theaters to see new movies, but I've been incredibly disappointed by the last couple movies I've seen in theaters.  I go and see these movies that are supposed to be riveting and have gotten excellent reviews, and experience the same thing over and over; the movie is full of stars but is severely lacking in plot and/or anything interesting.  Yet, even lacking any structure, these films carry on for a good 3 hours.  I don't understand this recent trend... (ex. The Good Shepherd, Children of Men, The Black Dahlia...)

Children of Men did get good reviews, but it was also excellent.

I thought Children of Men never got to the point. It was torn between trying to be an action film and trying to be social commentary and it seemed to muddle along. I did like the cinematography alot though. I thought that was highly innovative and really made you feel as if this was a live feed from a reporter or a battlefield video taken by a soldier. So I don't know what it was. The overall plot was good I just don't think they either elaborated it enough or they didn't really seem to get what they wanted to do with the movie.

What made it so good was exactly that it didn't try to be an action film at all but instead had an interesting story.

Well I thought they didn't persue the story enough and they were stuck in this middle point between being focused on action and being focused on plot/character development. So it seems like they never paid enough attention or didn't spend enough time on the plot elements.

Letters from Iwo Jima which was an overall amazing film. Very touching and very nicely done. It was also interesting to see WWII from another perspective other than the "victorious" side all the time.

I can definitely recommend Downfall then, in case you haven't seen it yet. Absolutely awesome film.

I have. I do have to completely agree with you it was absolutely awesome.

An absolutely horrible movie. My Dad's a big Trek fan and he dragged me to see this movie in the theaters. It claims the title of being the only movie I have ever seen that actually put me to sleep, though The Good Shepard was close.

While I've fallen asleep before films a few times (notably so with Godfather II and Apocalypse Now), the only movie I fell asleep in front of in a cinema was Kingdom of Heaven.

Well Kingdom of Heaven was an alright movie I just think it suffered from bad casting. In my opinion the movie would have been much better if Liam Neeson had played an older version Orlando Bloom's character.

Kingdom of Heaven was genuinely awful though, but Miami Vice is by far the worst film I've ever seen in a cinema, I'd rather drink a can of paint while being raped by a ten foot green pole disguised as Colin Farrell then seen that again. Oh, and Colin Farrell must die. Painfully.

Miami Vice was horrible and let's not forget that Colin Farrell is a product of your country. Another shoddy product from the Celtic Tiger. Tongue
