The Mist.  I am a sucker for horror movies.

But if you count rental or on-demand movies, I just watched Princess Diaries with my seven year old for the eighty-fourth time.

It was a lot more fun when she was three and called it "Princess Diarrhea".

Thanks for the Cloverfield recommendations.

I absolutely LOVE horror movies.  Can't get anyone to go with me, though!  The wife went with me to see The Mist (or whatever it was called) but that was because it was my birthday.

Just watched Little Children on the On Demand from Comcast.  Kate Winslet and Jenifer Conally.  Wowsers... great movie.

And I just burned a copy of The Lion in Winter from AMC.  Peter O'Toole and Katherine Hepburn were pure magic in that flick.  I'd seen in before but some movies demand re-viewing!

Saw two lately:

The Brave One - OK, this was completely implausible. Jodie Foster buys a gun barely knowing how to use it, kills a few people in self-defense, and then instantly becomes this bad-ass killing machine who can take out hardened gang members and crime bosses with ease. Uh huh. There was also a ton of plot holes surrounding the ending, and some near the beginning too (what was vigilante about killing the guy in the gas station? That was obvious self-defense!) One thing I did like about it though was the obvious homages to Taxi Driver, although they might've been a bit too obvious. (30 years ago Jodie Foster is a teenaged prostitute rescued by Robert DeNiro, now she rescues the teenaged prostitute.)

Idiocracy - This movie reminded me of Mike Naso. It was funny yes, but also rather depressing in that manner.

I agree with you about The Brave One.  Dumber than Death Wish.  But it's a guilty pleasure -- watching the bad guys get greased by the victim.

Plus, I find Jodie Foster more and more "watchable" as she ages.  She looks good.

Just watched Enchanted with my daughter.  She's seven and loves anything with princesses in it.  I'm 42 and love anything with Amy Adams in it.

I have a red hair fetish, I think.  She's yummmmmmmmy!

Tooth And Nail. 2007  Nobody famous in it.

Not bad, but nothing new. Cannibals are fun, though.

At the theaters, Iron Man.

At home -- every one of you except Rin is gonna laugh at me -- but ---

I watched The Little Princess with Shirley Temple.  My daughter actually ASKED to watch it, which shocked me.  She hates old movies.  But she loved it.  As for me -- I was fine after the first 20 minutes, when the Daddy had to leave his little girl and go off to fight in the Boer War.  My daughter thought it was terrifically funny that I got choked up over that.

But I am a bachelor this weekend!!!!  HUZZAH for the in-laws!!!  My Mrs. and daughter are going to Ohio and I have the TV all to myself.  There shal be much drinking, much farting, much baseball, much scratching and lots of westerns, war movies and horror-fests.  If I have time, I might even watch Goodfellas for the 112th time!

Iron Man, finally saw it two days ago. Really good movie, with of course a sequel coming.

I hope we can start a petition drive to make sure Gwyneth wears that blue satin dress in EVERY sequel.

Rented The Kingdom.  Decent film.  The last 20 seconds were powerful and worth the price of rental.

At the theater -- Space Chimps.  Horrible.  Absolutely horrible.  But my seven year old loved it.  And I had fun watching her watch the movie.

Ouch. I am sooooooooo glad I don't have kids now.

Worse than the movie -- my seven year old and her friend were talking in whispers about "cute boys" before the movie started.

I thought I would have a heart attack.  My throat started to close...

12 Angry Men.

A great film. Henry Fonda was superb!

One of my favorites.  My Dad made me watch it when I was a kid and I have loved it ever since.

A wonderfully campy, 1958 flick with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee called...The Horror of Dracula.

Not nearly as interesting as Interview or Bram Stoker's Dracula, and no way near as aesthetically pleasing or just plain quirky as HBO's True Blood...

still...it was good retro fun.

Gifted Hands:  The Ben Carson Story

I thought it was wonderful.  How much of it is actually true and how much is embellished is known only to Ben.  But if 10% of it is fact, he is one inspiring and amazing character.  And so is his mother.

Larceny, Incorporated with Edward G. Robinson, Anthony Quinn, Jane Wyman and a very early (minor) role for Jackie Gleason.  What fun!

Old movies are such a blast.

Have you seen the original (or its prequel, Night of the Living Dead)? Two of my favorite films.

Both -- yeah, they were great.  The original Dawn and Night were excellent.  I like the remake of Dawn but not the remake of Night.

I think zombies need to form a union!

State of Play.

This is probably my favorite of 2009 so far. The plot was full of twists but always kept you engaged and itself interesting, never a dull moment, the cast rocked, well OK some of Affleck's more "serious" moments could've used some work but whatever, Crowe absolutely owned. This is one of the most engaging and effective movies in a long time that American studios usually won't bother with anymore, this being a remake of a British miniseries.

Thanks for this, BRTD.  I have been wanting to hear about the movie from someone whose take on film I respect.  (I never would have seen "No Country" or "There Will be Blood" if you and a few others hadn't recommended them.)  So this one looks like it's going on my list.

(I still thing Fight Club is way overrated...hehe)

Yep.

First time I saw it: "Amazing".

Saw it a few years after: "Oh in fact it touched the part of teen revolt I had".

Nevertheless, the surprise of the end remains a big surprise. And the talk of the film about the modern society still stands IMO.

I agree.  It certainly IS a good movie.  I'm just not sure I understand the whole notion that it belongs in the canon of the greatest films of all time.  Then again, I actually met someone about 15 years ago who said, "Predator 2 changed my whole life".

:::: waiting for you all to spew ::::

I kid you not.

A bunch of us were talking about action movies...which ones were fun, which ones were over the top, etc....and this guy pipes up with that gem.  It was a classic "crickets chirping" moment.  No one knew what to say without simply insulting the guy.  He was a nice enough sort -- but he always carried numchucks (sp?) in the back of his car..."just in case"...LOL  He's a cop now, somewhere in Ohio.  Don't you feel good knowing that?

Unlawful Entry, a 1992 thriller about Ray Liotta as a crazy cop who begins to have a fixation on Kurt Russell's amazingly hot wife Madeline Stowe. Good flick.

That was good, Mike.  And Madeline Stowe was delicious.
