Divide and conquer...I'm sure Rounds--like Mark Sanford--can run on a booming economy.

The issue will carry electoral saliency but I expect Rounds to win, and fairly comfortably. Chances are conservatives will be enthused by it and vote in droves; while, taking into account other issues the failure of those opposed to the new law to unite behind a Democratic challenger is likely. It might elect Democrats, but South Dakota has a lot more Republicans

His approval ratings are high, let's see if they take a turn for the worse

Has Sen. Tim Johnson had anything to say on the abortion ban?

No.  The Dems don't even have a challenger in sight.  If they can find a credible challenger, the governor might be kept under 70% by this whole thing, but that's the best that can be done.

This won't help Rounds, but signing a bill with evenly split support won't hurt him enough to make this a remotely competitive race.

I suppose the Republicans risk losing a few state legislature seats around Sioux Falls.  That's pretty much it.
