MLK was a great man who did many great things for black people and civil rights but he wasn't the only one who did these things. Many others from the time that the US was created have done great things as well.

Though he was great, many others were and no one person deserves their own day when they are one among many. IIRC his family didn't even want the day to be created. I urge the Senate to pass this.

As a general rule, I do not believe that any particular person should have a holiday in his honor. Firstly, people disagree about the importance and the achievements of different individuals. The government should not take sides in these debates. Secondly, no individual is, in my opinion, great enough to deserve a holiday named after him. Important achievements were normally the result of the efforts of many, not the efforts of one. If we want to honor something, we should honor the idea, not the man.

We have already abolished Columbus Day; Martin Luther King Day should likewise be abolished.

Since my general policy is to support a full move to Atlasia-centric holidays, I am in support of this bill.

I am, by no means, a racist. I believe Martin Luther King Jr was a great man, who fought for a noble cause. He was a great American. However, we are Atlasia, not America, so I support the trend to make Atlasian-specific holidays. Furthermore, the fact that MLK gets his own holiday doesn't make much sense, considering so many others fought, and even died, to achieve racial equality. To remember MLK alone would be like remembering the US victory in WW2 by celebrating 'Patton Day'. Sure, he did his part, but there were so many others who fought for the same goal. I would be in favor of a more general holiday celebrating the civil rights movement as a whole.

This bill has enough votes to pass.  Senators have 24 hours to change their votes.

What about the members of the public who have invaded the floor? Wink
