Well, the truth is that slightest criticism of George W, whom you seem to regard as some kind of god, drives you Republicans into an uncontrollable rage.

I criticize Bush when he deserves it.  But I don't even think jfern would have managed to blame Bush for this one.

There is a connection. DUI and underage drinking are both illegal.

DUI and underage drinking occured long before Bush or his father were in office.

Not only that, but DUI and underage drinking laws are state laws, not federal.  (Not to mention have been on the books since before Bush was even born.)

Sorry buddy, no excuse for something like this.

If you crave attention that badly to bring alcohol into school, just get drunk and walk on Main Street and be a public spectacle. It's easier.

Who blamed Bush for this one?

Unfortunately George and Laura are not exactly good role models, either.

Underage drinking kicks ass. DUIs do not. Bush should be rightfully blamed for his DUI, but Tweed did nothing wrong.

Duh, you did.  You said that the president and his wife aren't good role models, I said that it has nothing to do with this, then you said you think it does.  By your reasoning, the character of the president and his wife contributed to the fact that Tweed decided to bring vodka to school.

You then proceeded to connect Bush to the drinking laws, which

A)  Have been in place long before any Bush became President and

B)  Are state laws, and hence not within his jurisdiction anyway

My point was that Republicans are hypocrites.

And this has to do with Tweed's drinking how?

Which brings me back to my initial post:  This has nothing to do with anything.

There is a connection. DUI and underage drinking are both illegal.

DUI and underage drinking occured long before Bush or his father were in office.

Adultery and lieing about it occured long before Clinton was in office.

When did I say otherwise? Oh, that's right - I didn't, so maybe you shouldn't bring up irrelevant things.

And by the way, anyone with half a brain could see your implication that the president's character contributed to these things - if you don't want people to take that as your point, then learn how to make your point better. You've got only yourself to blame for the bad context of your statement.

obviously, not everyone thinks like you

Obviously not, but enough people thought like me on this to see an implication from you that Bush's character from 1976 is relevant to Tweed briging booze to school. I don't see anyone taking your side on this, so maybe you should just admit you made your point poorly.

"By your reasoning, the character of the president and his wife contributed to the fact that Tweed decided to bring vodka to school. "

What, you're using three year old logic now?
I'm so impressed.
Since you haven't gotten my point, I guess I just have to tell you.
My point was that Republicans are hypocrites.

Dood, you  tossed  out  a huge non-sequitur (Bush pretty much had nada to do with the subject), and have followed it up with a groundless Ad-Hominem.

Secondly,  hypocracy is very common and knows no  party bounds.  Bush worship is not overly different than the decades of Kennedy worship that the Democratic party has suffered from (and one of the auxillery reasons I was in the GOP until 2000)

Kemperor has  been commendably patient with you, and if  I may draw a parallel to the subject at hand, I suspect that you are also acting out in a desire for attention.   You got it, but at the expense of your credibility.   Is that really what you want?

Moderation?
Yes: people 21 or over.
No: people younger should not be drinking period. Except for exceptions.
(communion, for example)

If you don't agree with the law, fine, change it.
But until then what is is and what is not is not.

Uhh, I hate to say you just offended about half the people on here myself included.  I've drank many times underage.

19 is more sensible, that way there aren't any mixed drinker/nondrinker parties in high school.

Yes, for two reasons:

1) Legal or officially sanctioned parties (think the prom or something) would probably have alcohol for the 18-year-olds, which is unfair for the younger types
2) Those who are actually concerned about what the law states (e.g. me, other weirdoes) might go to parties with other people who are legally consuming alcohol at their age, and what would happen then?  I mean, parties with kids serving alcohol underage are obviously going to have underage drinking either way, but having some seniors who can drink legally and some seniors or members of other grades who can't would make stuff too fuzzy and unenforcable (even by the hosts themselves, if they want to enforce it)

Let's put it that way - you will have some people not drinking even if it's totally legal for everybody. The changes would be peripheral. (Of course I have to try and imagine a situation where alcohol is illegal for under 21 year olds, as the situation you are trying to imagine is the only one I have ever known. Wink )

100% wrong. You think high school seniors don't party with the kids who just graduated the year before?
