Just found an article by Jim Davenport:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060509/ap_on_el_ge/whither_yellow_dog_2

I gotta love a comment from a Wanda Todd (61) of Myrtle Beach, SC, who says she has never voted for a Republican saying "I'm too Southern for that" Grin

Given Bush's and the GOP-Congress' plummetting popularity in the South do you think that Yellow Dog Democrats could make a comeback?

Of course, this would be in the form of Blue Dogs Smiley

I think there may be somewhat of a resurgence. If Democrats emphasize economic issues, they can be succesful in the South.

Hadn't imagined Yellow Dog Democrats still existed...

Wow

Though I doubt any sort of short term trends will cause the resurgence of Yellow Dog Democrats; they existed over bitterness towards Republicans from the Civil War, and I don't see people thinking current Republicans had anything to do with reconstruction etc.

If Republicans do exactly everything the south doesn't want done for about 20 years, then maybe, but Yellow Dogs were an interesting case, not easily recreated.
