Yes, and they should also be eligible for the draft, so long as there is one.

No.

1.  More often than not women cannot compete with men in the physical arena.  If I were a soldier, I would want a man covering my 6 and dragging me back to base if I were wounded, not a woman.

2.  The emotional effect of seeing women blown too pieces would be too much for most soliders.

3.  The women would be getting knocked up left and right.  On top of that they would be a major distraction.

There shouldn't be a draft (or even selective service) but I agree if there is to be a draft, it should include both genders.

Yes. Tons of communist guerilla forces do this and they are rather effective. I bet the FARC chicks could kick anyone on this forum's ass.

Women should be held to the same standards as the men.  If they pass, then one can conclude that they are as fit as any man to serve.  Obviously, more men would pass than women, but this is not a problem.

No, not under any circumstances will I ever support letting women into combat, or to join the military except as either nurses or secretaries.  And neither would I support having women be made eligible for the draft.

Point is, if communist insurgencies can use women in combat, why not the real army? That kind of nullifies all the arguments against it.

AND YOU ALREADY MADE THE POINT! Do you have to reiterate it again and again and again? Your obsessions get on people's nerves sometimes.

I didn't say you did. But you did make your point once, then for some god forsaken reason you made the same point again.

Here's another point: Let's say you lived in a country that was invaded by a foreign power. Would you be against women partaking in the resistance? You'd rather see your country fall than have women in combat in that case?

And of course, there's also the example of Nancy Wake: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Wake

If you have women who are as capable in the military as men, why not?  If women truly want equality, they must accept the responsibility that comes with it.

Well, women and men aren't physically equal. Depends on how much training involved, but with little training it might not be the best idea.

Not all, but I'm saying that those who are physically equal to men should not be an exception just because they're women.

Oppose.

And I'm not sure what the hell people mean by "equality" in the context of human relations, as if this is some kind of meaningful, objective concept. If by equality you mean being treated the same, then yes, it is true by definition that in order to be treated the same, women have to be treated the same with regard to 'responsibilities' as well as 'privileges,' for there is no qualifier. But if by equality, you mean that society is to hold each sex in equal esteem, you are dealing with something that is completely subjective and, in order to be realized with regard to any individual, does not require the same roles at all.
