I prefer some sort of middle ground on this overrated issue designed to distract people from the Republican party's failures.

Most dems are pretty bad on the issue, and reps are split.

Democrats constantly flip on this issue because they don't want to lose anymore of the latino vote than they already have...and they don't want to come off as weak.

At least the Republicans are open with their bullsh**t. They'll tell you that they are pro-amnesty whether you like it or not.

^^^^^^^

Another one of those issues Bush opposes to turn around and take credit for.

Well, I must say that since the issue has hurt Bush's popularity quite a bit, this strategy hasn't worked well so far.

For the lack of a better category, you can call me an Indy pro-Amnesty person, though I am not for Amnesty as it is defined and implemented in the 80s.  I'm for people who have been here a significantly long time with no criminal record being offered a Working visa, pay a standardized financial penalty for each family member per year, and let the process take it's course.  If they ever are able to apply for/obtain a green card during the valid period of their visa, then good for them.

As for the dems I mentioned, Lamm is a former dem, ran for the Reform nonmination, and is now retired. Nelson and Byrd are remenents of the old democratic party, that has little influence today.

Nelson is a DINO, and Byrd is an ex-Klansman. Neither make a strong case for our argument against amnesty.

Ben Nelson would make a good independent candidate, but that probably will never happen?

Probably not. Ben Nelson does well in Nebraska...he gets the party voting democrats, moderates, and independent conservatives. I think he is content.

You know where I stand on this issue: Democrat STRONGLY ANTI-AMNESTY.

We should do our best to deport them as soon as possible.

Simply dump the illegals in Iraq. It will take longer for them to get back across the border if they're dumped outside of north america.

But we're trying to calm things down in Iraq, not get them angry at us.

Perhpas we could ship them to Venezuela.

I really oculd care less whether Iraq is stable or note. simply deport the Iraqis from the oil producing areas/other usable areas of Iraq and let them have the empty high desert.

No republicans here who support amnesty. I wouldn't guess that the way the senate voted?

I am proAmnesty AS LONG AS we truly get a handle on illegal immigration and don't find ourselves needing to grant amnesty to ten million more immigrants in the next decade. I hate the symbolism of a wall, but if immigration in our country is to work, there have to be guidelines and limitations. Limitless immigration works against the virtues of allowing some.

If there is no change, if we don't get a handle on illegals, amnesty i probably a bad idea.
