Choose who you think will win the election. This election could turn out to be very competitive.

If he runs, Knowles.

He's running.

I don't think Murkowski is getting passed the primary and if he does, he loses the General. If the GOP nominates someone else I still think we have a hard fight against a popular former Governor who almost won a Senate seat so I'm saying Knowles will win it.

Knowles by about 10% at minimum.  Hopefully Frank will get past his primary.

It depends on whether Murkowski wins the primary or not.

I would still like to see a poll, but if he does, I'm thinking that ths race will proably be slightly Democratic.  I mean, just look at Oregon's polling.

If we do get polls out of Alaska, they'll probably be pure crap like in 2004 (partisan polls disguised as non-partisan ones), but I guess we should ask for them anyway.

I was pretty sure Knowles would win in '04 (it'd have been like Max Bacus Mk2!) - I was even looking forward to it, along with Carson, Salazar, Obama and John... so i'm not as sure as i was then, however circumstances certianly favour Knowles in a race for Governor this year, way more than they did in his race for Senate last year.

I didn't know that he was now for sure running. Glad to hear this. Knowles will win then unless Murkowski loses the primary, and even then he'd still be the favorite.

Other Republican.

I like Sarah Palin, but I suspect Binkley will win the primary.

Knowles, given Murkowski's unpopularity and the macro anti-GOP climate.

If Murkowski wins the primary, than Knowles will win by at least 15 points. Murkowski has the second losest approval rating of any governor in the US.

If it's Knowles vs. Murkowski, Knowles will be in roughly Spitzer's situation.

If it's Knowles vs. any other Republican, I'd still give Knowles the edge.

If any other Democrat is nominated, the voters should be shot.

I doubt it will be a Spitzer situation. I expect Spitzer to win by at least 20-30 points. I would say Knowles will win by maybe 10-15.

I didn't mean the exact margin; I more just meant the case where the Democrat is basically completely assured victory.

Hmm, look at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_gubernatorial_election%2C_2006#Opinion_Polling

Looks like a Knowles - Palin matchup

Knowles leads 43:39

I´m moving this to tossup now.

Ivan Moore Research?   All I can find is that $750 has been donated to two Democrats under that name.  Not exactly Mason-Dixon.

It's the same polling company that gave us those supposedly "Independent" polls out of Alaska in 2004 showing Knowles ahead.

Something I got from an Alaskan:

[Knowles is] only 4% higher than Sarah Palin, but there has been -0- debates yet.

Knowles will eat her alive. He'll easily get the endorsement of everyone in the military, the unions, Alaska fisherman, oil workers, and the progressive Alaskans.

For a Republican, Sarah Palin, is not a bad person. She is fair and she's very non-partisan. She's not ready for the prime-time yet though.

Tony and Sarah have definitely already moved far away from the rest of their respective packs. And when it's down to just the two of them, Knowles will win it all big time.

I live here. I know Alaska voters. Knowles will win.

Wow. How did you get a chance to speak with Tony himself?    Tongue
