Adoption Bill

1. No adoption agency run by or funded, either in full or in part, by the federal government of Atlasia shall bar any individual or couple from adopting a minor based solely or primarily on their sexual orientation.
2. Any agency outlined above shown to be in violation of this act shall be liable to a three month suspension of their funding pending further investigation.
3. This act shall not be construed as to deny adoption agencies the ability to deny adoption rights to someone with a criminal record of sexual misconduct, nor shall the definition of "sexual orientation" be interpreted to include predators of children.

While I would prefer that children are raised in a household with a mother and a father, that is not always possible. I'd rather have children raised in a loving environment than stuck in a bad situation.

Personally, I feel that such an issue as same-sex adoption should be a matter for the Regions to determine; however, since Article I Section 5: Powers of the Senate Clause 5 reads: The Senate shall have the power save where limited by other provisions in the Constitution To establish uniform rules of Naturalisation and Alienation, Marriage and Divorce, and Adoption and Emancipation of Minors throughout the Republic of Atlasia , it is clearly a Senate matter

Personally, I don't have a problem with same-sex adoption, since I'm sure many homosexual or lesbian couples in a committed and loving relationship are every bit as capable of being good parents as heterosexual couples, but it is likely that the Christian Democratic will pass a policy plank opposing it, which puts me in a tough situation

As of now, I'm undecided on how to vote on this Bill, but I'd appreciate it if my constituents could air their thoughts on this

I support this either way but it only affects adoption agencies funded or partially funded by the federal government.

I'd suggest that you follow your conscience, not your party's platform, if they are at odds.

I hope that my senators will consider Senator Keystone Phil's conscientious stance on this issue.

It is unfortunate that the CDP maintains such a platform that is clearly at odds with a significant number of its members, and indeed in the electorate as a whole. Having drafted an early version of this bill, which became law in the Mideast, I, putting aside my political position to the side, urge the Senate to pass this bill.

I urge the Senate to pass this because it is flat out discrimination and that cannot be upheld.  There is no substantial evidence that says lacking a parent of one sex or the other hinders your growth as a human being. There are many male and female positive influences outside the home if there was an issue with lacking one sex.  I believe allowing single parents to adopt is questionable, but two loving parents can take care of a child and raise them well.  I know personally several homosexual couples with children who are bright and good people.

I believe allowing single parents to adopt is questionable

Better no parents than one, eh?

This bill has enough votes to pass. Senators now have 24 hours to change their votes.

I must vote with my conscience rather than with my party's platform. As the new Chairman of the Christian Democratic Party, I, sincerely, hope my party will overturn this policy, at some point, in the not too distant future

Therefore, I vote Aye ftr
