Different type of wars, unfortunately.  It's kinda hard to compare a single-land mass made of mostly desert terrain war compared to a war on multiple islands of dense jungle and swamps.

Yeah well they would be right. At least in Iraq you had the whole "remove the brutal dictator" excuse, that one was just pure imperialism.

Well, uh, he was an imperialist (whether or not he was a "war criminal" would be a matter of some debate, of course). His excuse for annexation was that the US needed to spread the love of God among the heathen Filipinos (who were actually Roman Catholic*, but never mind). Of course the conflict was far worse than the war in Iraq- IIRC something like half a million Filipinos were killed. Of course, we ended up granting independence and we maintain a "special relationship" with the Philippines, but damn... it was a brutal war.

*With the exception of some Muslims on Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago.

I don't know about the first two, but the answer to the 3rd is that it ended just in time for World War 1, which was followed by the Great influenza.

I don't think they were generally recognized, although the initial fighting may have been lumped in with the Spanish-American War.
