The case for Rudy is obvious.
The case for Ridge is that he is moderate from a swing state.
This is also the case for Thompson.
The case for Condie Rice is that she is a widely respected minority.
The case for George Allen is likeability, plus he nails down increasingly liberal Virginia.
The case for Taft is the same as that for Ridge and Thompson.
Franks is a Wildcard, and so is Baker.  He'd choose Franks if he wants to reaffirm his Iraq policy, and Baker if he wants to back away.

He choses Taft it pretty much secures a Kerry win in Ohio

Bush would want a minority, strategically.  He could lure a few % away from the Democrats if he has an intelligent minority by his side.

Rudy would cause Bush some real problems with his Conservative base.  A pro-choice. pro gay marriage VP wouldn't sit well with Bush's base

I've always thought Bush should replace him with Condi...but wouldn't there be the prospect of some serious threats against her life? (minority running for MAJOR republican office)

Weren't there some serious threats against Powell when he considered presidency?

You obviously know nothing about his politics. he's about as close to your politics as Tweed, Mr. "gays will cause God to destroy America"

He might be choosing based not on issues, but on what he brings to the ticket.  Party loyalists might prefer a moderate Republican that helps the party stay in teh WHite House to a conservative who brings nothing, which is what Cheney is now.

I would say Rudy is more of a liberal Republican rather than amoderate Republican, along the lines of Specter.

Every last one of the choices listed in this poll stinks to high heavens.

But since everything Bush touches turns to rubbish, you can't expect him to pick anyone any better.

Giuliani is MORE liberal than Specter. That's why the fact he's even being considered as VP is ludicrious.

The only threats I am aware of against Powell were those from his wife, who said if he ran for President, she would leave him. Supposedly, she has asked him not to serve a second term as Secretaty of State if Bush wins or Kerry offers him the job.

She is apparently afraid that if he runs he will get shot.....

Giuliani is to the left of every Republican Governor and Senator except for possibly Lincoln Chafee.
