Apparently I would be one of the Liberal Party's more conservative members.

http://openpolitics.ca/ppq/index.php?q_0=4&q_1=2&q_2=2&q_3=2&q_4=1&q_5=-2&q_6=-2&q_7=4&HE=11&AD=-29&BS=27&CI=-17&LR=3&NW=3
Highest ranking dimension: Democratic
You believe in the principles of democracy - that too much control by too few is a dangerous proposition You may have felt that what the country really needs is to open the corridors of power and let more "real people" inside. This may be because you have seen people treated unfairly, seen self interest take over people ’s judgment and wish that political leaders would lead by following the people’s wishes. It may also be because you see that the people who tend to get elected don’t represent the diversity of viewpoints and cultures that exist in the population. Others may disagree with you because they are impatient to see politicians "do something", and possibly because they are less inclined to do their own thinking about the issues. When politicians of your type make mistakes it is often because in an attempt to please everybody, they please nobody.

Second highest ranking dimension: Big Government
You believe in the power of government to make life better. You may have felt that what the country really needs is for the government to get serious about the many problems that people face. This may be because you have seen the system break down and know people who have fallen through the cracks. It may also be because you feel that our society is at risk our communities need better protection from internal and external dangers. Others may disagree with you because they are focused on what government does wrong, rather than what it does right. When politicians of your type make mistakes it is often because they create programs that solve one problem but create others.

Combined statement:
Based on your answers, you are big on a "by the people for the people government" that takes good care of its citizens.

When I first took this I got Paleolibertarian. I realized the difference maker being question #50 - "Do you frequently vote third-party for president?" I initially answered yes, but then realized since I have not yet actually cast a ballot for President, the answer is 'no' by default, thus changing the result of this test...

Interesting, that's basically dead on in terms of my attitudes even with the weird bias the author has.

This is full of stupid questions though that miss the actual moral distinction:

e.g.

"Physically abusive rituals (willing cutting, mutilation, etc.) should be allowed in private. Assume there are no costs on society for rehabilitation."

On oneself or unconsenting others?

"Loitering/hanging-out should be legal anywhere."

Private property or public property?

I was forced to answer "disagree" to both due to their unclear wording.

Practical Democrat

You scored 76% economically responsible, 69% self-destructively free and 47% expressively free.

People need lots of help in the marketplace, but not in leading their lives. So long as they aren't too pushy, let them do what they want.

Economy (liberal): The economy is a raging force that must be controlled or we will be swept away. We have to remember that it is founded on greed, and unchecked greed is a recipe for disaster. Rigid rules must be in place to limit the powerful and prevent tragedies from slipping through the cracks.

Personal Freedom (liberal): If it only involves me, what right does anyone have to tell me no? A person should be allowed to be as stupid and harmful to themselves as they want, and letting the government go in, imposing majority morality, is dangerously tyrannical.

Expressive Freedom (moderate): We should strike a careful balance between governing the clash of viewpoints and allowing an ideological brawl. Some issues simply should be kept to private quarters (if there), regardless of how strongly people feel about them -- it can be dangerous and inappropriate in public. At the same time, being too restrictive isn't fair; this is supposed to be a free country. If it's not too dangerous or offensive, then let them share. Otherwise...

Closet Democrat
You scored 64% economically responsible, 57% self-destructively free and 36% expressively free.

Economy (liberal): The economy is a raging force that must be controlled or we will be swept away. We have to remember that it is founded on greed, and unchecked greed is a recipe for disaster. Personal Freedom (liberal): If it only involves me, what right does anyone have to tell me no? A person should be allowed to be as stupid and harmful to themselves as they want, and letting the government go in, imposing majority morality, is dangerously tyrannical.

Expressive Freedom (conservative): If people are in public, where I have to deal with them, they should be presentable and discreet. When they bring their problems to the streets it can be harmful, so we need to strictly limit what people are allowed to do in public.

Foreign Policy Philosophy Test:

1. Radical
Emphasis on social justice, cooperation, democracy; the best states are peaceful and democratic, as well as moderately egalitarian. We must stop attacking countries for oil and focus on larger threats; beating up little countries that never hurt anyone is a grave threat to spreading democracy. Basically Neoliberal with a dash of Marxist. Dean, Gore.

2. Neoliberal
Emphasis on cooperation, consensus, free trade; cooperative, democratic states are more advantageous than rogue autocracies. To secure our own borders, we should make sure other countries are democratic, free-trading, and participate in international organizations: a much more pragmatic version of Liberal. Clinton, Fukuyama, Marshall.

3. Pacifist
Emphasis on violence, injustice, war; states spread war, disease and famine. We must encourage an end to all violence, dismantling of al nuclear stockpiles, and eliminate the causes of division, conflict and violence, perhaps including capitalism or business. Thoreau, Tolstoy.

4. Liberal
Emphasis on freedom, markets, democracy; free democratic states are good and fair, but autocratic states are immoral. We must push for democratization and liberalization around the world using open trade and international organizations: all people should be free. Wilson, Reagan, Kant, Shultz.

5. Marxist
Emphasis on socialism, exploitation, racism; capitalist countries are either false democracies or outright fascist states, socialist countries are more just (or at least less dangerous). Capitalism and racism are evil institutions spreading Western hegemony and propping up decadent empires, either historical processes or street protests (perhaps revolutions) will bring about more humane world. Trotsky, Molotov, Marx!

Liberal Democrat or Conservative Republican Test:

1. Neo-Liberal(Ted Kennedy)

2. Liberal Democrat(John Kerry)

3. Moderate Democrat(Bill Clinton)

(They were the only ones that scored Tongue)

European Political Ideologies Test:

1. You are a social democrat. Like other socialists, you believe in a more economically equal society - but you have jettisoned any belief in the idea of the planned economy. You believe in a mixed economy, where the state provides certain key services and where the productivity of the market is harnessed for the good of society as a whole. Many social democrats are hard to distinguish from social liberals, and they share a tolerant social outlook.

2. You are a classical socialist, believing in equality of outcome as a principle. This might mean greater equality (e.g. Old Labour), or as close to absolute equality as possible. However, you will believe in an extensive public sector, covering not just public services (transport, healthcare etc.) but probably also the 'commanding heights' of industry (e.g. iron and steel). Your views on personal morality will be reasonably tolerant, in general, but there is considerable variation within this political group.

3. You are a social liberal. Like all liberals, you believe in individual freedom as a central objective - but you believe that lack of economic opportunity, education, healthcare etc. can be just as damaging to liberty as can an oppressive state. As a result, social liberals are generally the most outspoken defenders of human rights and civil liberties, and combine this with support for a mixed economy, with an enabling state providing public services to ensure that people's social rights as well as their civil liberties are upheld.
