This might sound like someone who just wants to vote against inevitable winners, but it may have actually been how George Wallace voted.

Public knowledge of the Lewinsky scandal post-dated all of these elections.

Well, there was only one state that swung Republican between 1988 and 1992, and that's Iowa. So... maybe an Iowan whose last hurrah voting Democrat was for Dukakis?

I wasn’t referring to Lewinsky specifically.

A Carter-Mondale-Dukakis voter with an unhinged hate for the Clintons would much more likely have voted Perot twice though. Or even Perot-Nader.

I could see Hitchens voting for Anderson or some other third party in 1980 due to a dislike of Carter's religiosity.

Deeply religious and socially conservative Democrat who voted for the party on economic issues but found Clinton offensive to their moral sensibilities. Clinton's triangulation during his first term removed whatever incentive they'd had for voting Democrat previously and permanently shifted their party allegiance.

This probably describes George Wallace, as it seems that he voted this way

Someone who was offended by Reagan’s divorce and non-attendance to Church and thought Bush was tainted being Reagan’s VP, but was even more offended by the Gennifer Flowers affair.
