Quote
GOP Sen. Ron Johnson (Wis.) on Friday blocked an effort to pass a second round of stimulus checks, arguing coronavirus relief needs to be targeted and raising concerns about the country's debt.

If Johnson runs for re-election, how will this hurt his chances?

An unbelievably bone-headed thing for him to do. These ads will cut themselves (if the Dems are smart enough to make them, that is)

The Rs are blocking things due to effect Biden is now Prez and the Hunter Biden story has been heard before the Senate

Obviously if Rs lose the GA, the D's will have a second crack at it, but the 1.8T was ready to go before Pelosi botched it

If Johnson runs for re-election, how will this hurt his chances?

It will completely ruin his reelection chances just like Pelosi blocking COVID relief before the election resulted in a Republican takeover of the House.

I can't tell whether or not this is sarcastic, but I'm gonna assume not.

...

You know Johnson has been a main player in the  Hunter Biden story and wants Hunter Prosecuted, that's why he has decided to do this stunt.

If Johnson runs for re-election, this won't make a difference. The 2022 election is still almost two years off.

Infuriating that Johnson will almost certainly win re-election despite doing literally nothing for Wisconsinites. I know too many people in Wisconsin who bought into Ron's down-to-earth-business-owner persona. The guy's a useless Senator, continuously toes the party line while advocating against making Wisconsinites' lives better.

If he does run for re-election, he's gotten very lucky with his election years. Running in the red wave of 2010, the first time a Republican won WI on a Presidential level since the 80s, and then running in 2022 which will also potentially be a red wave.

If he'd run in 2012 or 2018 he would've likely lost.

Good grief, Johnson is such cancer. Worst-of-both-worlds fusion of supercharged Trump hackery and classic R-WI Thatcherite heartlessness.

Ron Kind needs to be on message, consistently saying that Johnson is a fraud.

I still think Johnson runs against Evers for governor and he could win.

sh**t, that's a career ending move. Lean R --> Likely D

Populist Mark Pocan: 55.6%
Corporatist Ron Johnson: 43.7%

Edit: I screwed up in Milwakuee County, it would be D>60% because college-educated elitists in Wauwatosa and Whitefish Bay would vote for RoJo.

How is Johnson a fraud? He is exactly what he seems to be, i.e. the most generic, Trumpy, and Republican generic Trump-era Republican you could wish to meet.

The Democratic challenger in 2022 needs to drill-in the singular message that Sen. Johnson (worth $36M) voted for the GOP Tax Scam, deliberately granting a massive tax cut for himself, and then turned around and told working families that $1,200 was too much.

That's all. It's a winning message.

This is why the Republican Party labeling itself as the party of the working class will not stick in many places. They are still a very economically conservative party even in times of emergency.

Between this and his chairing that circus of a committee in which he called for hundreds of thousands of his own constituents to have their votes thrown out, seems like he’s writing the attack ads for his 2022 opponent.
