This is probably the closest senate race this year. McCaskill will definetly have to do her best to win against a well funded Talent. Although, McCaskill fits Missouri well. She is a moderate who can cut Talents wins in rural missouri while still getting huge victories in St. Louis and Jefferson City.

I believe McCaskill can win but I still worry about this race.  I think a McCaskill victory would really satisfy me, giving Missouri's rightward tilt recently.  As the previous poster said, she can produce big wins in urban Missouri and not get killed in the rural part of the state.  That should be enough for a win against the clearly vulnerable Talent.  Lets not forget another recent poll said McCaskill had a six point lead.

Personally, I do think she will ultimately lose in the traditionally Democratic rural areas if her stance on social issues like abortion becomes the issue (i.e. failed Democrat senatorial candidate Harriet Woods from 1982).

Quite the race we have here. I wish we got some more polls of it but it will always be overshadowed by that neck and neck battle down in Florida.

The suburbs of KC and St. Louis are becoming more bluer at this point.

The Missouri GOP political machine will be hard to beat. They dominate the state. McCaskill will however grab independent voters to vote for her. She describes herself as an independent person. Not a tactic I agree with considering I think democrats should be proud of what we stand for.

NOTE: Even though McCaskill was whiped in the gubernatorial race in rural areas, she still got 48%.

I think McCaskill is going to find this tough to win. I just cant see her getting 48% or higher of the vote. talent has way too much money thanks to the pharmaceutical companies.

I think that we will win this race but it is going to go down to the wire. Talent's stand on stem cell research is going to hurt him in this state.

I don't think any of Talent's specific stances will hurt him - overall he is not a bad match for the state ideologically.  However what will hurt him and may put McCaskill over the top is Bush/Republican fatigue in a state where most people are doing very badly economically.

In other words, people generally agree with Talent on the details, but have developed a pervasive (and correct) sense that he and his party are 'against them'.

Maybe all the ballot measures will take Talent down.
