I would not be too surprised if there were some backroom deals between the Lebanese gov't and the Israelis.  Something along the lines of "You come in and deal with Hezbollah and then leave when they are eliminated and we stand up to you so we look like we booted you out."

The Saudi's just issued a statement stating that Israel was provoked.  That's interesting.

There now is an alternative Shi'ite leadership to Iran.  It's called Iraq.

Iran has said that an attack on Syria would be an attack on the Muslim world.  I kinda doubt that Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt would agree.

Time to take Syria out of the equation?

Most of the Arab world is condemning Hezbollah over all this and calling on both sides to avoid targetting civillians.

Good for them.  The tide might actually be truning against radical Islam.

I have a feeling that Syria may be drawn into this sooner or later.

I have a feeling that is something many sides in this want.

Well, of course the crazy neocons would like to start World War 3.

Do you honestly expect Israel to stand back and allow Hezbollah to launch rocket attacks and incursions into her sovereign territory?

Surprising as it may seem, seldom, if at all, have Israel been the aggressor since its inception as a sovereign state in 1948

Dave

Quit acting as if only Hezbollah has been to blame. What Hezbollah did was retalaition for something else.

For what.  It is incumbent upon you to tell us what it was in retaliation for.  the straikes against Hamas in Gaza?  Those were realiating for the kidnapping of an Israeli soldier and missile/rocket strikes agianst Israel.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz seems to be a rare voice of reason on this conflict.

Anyways, someone needs to lock the Israel and Lebanon leaders in a room and tell them they're not coming out until they end this nonsense.

The Lebanese leaders have very little to do with this, other than ceding control of the southern part of their nation to Hezbollah.

Also true.

But really, jfern's right.  It's like most of the rest of the world looks over there, sighs, and says, "They always play this way."

Didn't John McCain suggest something similar to 'fern's solution?
