Let's assume for a minute that McGovern wins the 1972 election. What happens next?

Funding for the military is cancelled and the military becomes weak and ineffective, taxes are raised to record high levels, spending goes out of control, government positions are filled with unqualified people in order to meet mandated quotas, the government is overrun with extreme leftist loonies, incompetence and inefficiency run rampant throughout the national government and in all federal government departments, the government goes morally bankrupt, the nation goes financially bankrupt, the U.S. becomes a laughingstock around the world.

Conservative Republican Congressman John Ashbrook of Ohio defeats George McGovern in 1976, with Ashbrook winning all 50 states by margins ranging from 70% to 95% and with McGovern hanging onto DC by 0.5%.

All you have to do is look at what happened to Australia when they elected a leftist McGovern-esque candidate.

That sounds about right. McGovern was a nutter.
