I read on PolticalWire that another Zogby poll conducted at the same time found Allen lead 52% to 41%.  This seat is competetive, if not winnable, and the DSCC should try to make it so.

Yep, Jake's hit it right here. Let's realize here folks, Webb Can't Win.

I realize that this was a Zogby poll, but I still think Webb can win, regardless of his dismissals by a number of posters.  And I am not suffering from any delusions.  These poll numbers are still based purely on name recognition, and thanks to Allen's advantages of incumbency and fundraising, he holds a lead.  Webb's campaign has launched a pretty extensive grassroots network in Northern Virginia, Virginia Beach/Norfolk, and metro Richmond.  It has just taken a while to take hold.

The candidates held a debate last weekend at the Homestead in western Virginia.  Because it was sponsored by the Virginia Bar Association, it was not televised.  There will be a televised debate around Labor Day, and I expect the race will really begin to heat up after that point.  So while Republicans may be uber-confident about Allen right now, I strongly caution you not to count Webb out yet.

I'll give him a chance if he can pull close in fundraising dollars and if there are polls showing it close (down 3-5%).
