Go Canada!!

I really wish the games were on TV. I don't really understand all the rules of cricket, and having the games on TV would be great.

All I know is you gotta hit a ball with a bat and run back and forth scoring runs and there's something to do with knocking over a wicket although I don't know how the scoring works on that.

There's going to be a couple of good conspiracy theories here methinks....

Anyway RIP.

Police have opened a murder investigation into Woolmer's death.

I actually feel quite sick now. This is ghastly.

Seems like he was strangled or smothered. What a disgusting way to go. What makes me wonder is how someone got into his suite; I've not heard anything about breaking and entering - could have been someone he knew and trusted. Though best not to get ahead of myself.

Latest is that there was no sign of forced entry or of a struggle.

For what it's worth the main one seems to be that he was killed to stop him talking about match fixing.

Sad
Makes our chances of not finishing bottom of the Super 8 group much more likely.

final four: Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Coincidentally, the final four I predicted.

Australia won. The final has not been mentioned here 'till now for it was a complete farce that further disgraced the tournament...

None of the umpires (nor the match referee, whatever he does) had read the bloody laws recently! (they were unaware that only 20 overs are needed to officially constitute a match).

A little less cryptical, my dear. Think "guy who learned the laws, more or less, from watching Indian television and reading Indian newspapers, and who's held a cricket bat about three times in his life"

Basically there was a huge f*** up resulting in Australia being sent out to bowl when it was basically impossible to see anything when they'd already won the game...

Well, I must say that the World Cup has greatly increased the attention I pay to cricket. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoed watching the highlights shows.

However, I have to wonder how wise the tournament structure is. It all goes on a bit long. I'd certainly suggest amending the Super 8's part of it into two groups of four or something.

Also, I don't like the whole reduced overs thing - why not go into a second days play? And, what was up with the final? How can you expect a team to play in effective darkness?

Anyhoo... well done Ireland Smiley, I was genuinely on the edge of my seat watching the final overs of the Zimbabwe game and got great amusement out of the wins against Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Basically, it should be four groups of four with the winners going into A group and second place into B group, each team in A group playing one of their rivals; if they win then they should go through to the final four; if they lose they play the winners of the two games in B group.

IE, if the final eight were:

A Group

Australia
Sri Lanka
Pakistan
South Africa

B Group

India
New Zealand
West Indies
Bangladesh

You could have, for example:

Australia vs. Pakistan-Pakistan wins
Sri Lanka vs. South Africa-South Africa wins
Bangladesh vs. West Indies-West Indies win
India vs. New Zealand -New Zealand wins

then it'd be:

Australia vs. West Indies-Australia wins
Sri Lanka vs. New Zealand-New Zealand wins

Pakistan vs. New Zealand-Pakistan wins
South Africa vs. Australia-South Africa wins

Pakistan vs. South Africa

sure it leaves less opportunity for a comeback from a bad game, but it's the world cup-there shouldn't BE any bad games by the winning team.
