Indicate which of these potential candidates is MOST LIKELY to be elected president in November 2008.  Not who you want to win, but who you think has the best chance of winning.  I took the candidate list from the top 8 contenders from each party as determined by Tradesports.

If Mark Warner gets the Dem. Nomination he can win this thing, because he will get around 20% of the Rep. vote too.

Wow, so far, there's a lot of love for Warner, and to a slightly lesser extent, McCain.  Even though, according to the two other polls in this forum on who will get the respective party nominations, less than 50% of people here think Warner is the favorite to get the Dem nomination, and less than 50% think McCain is the favorite for the GOP nomination.  I guess most of the people who think either one of them will be nominated also think they'd be very strong general election candidates, and be the favorite to win in the general.  It would definitely be interesting to see these two go head to head in the general.

Incidentally, my vote for "most likely to go all the way and become 44th president of the United States" goes to McCain.  But I agree that Warner has an excellent chance as well.

Mark Warner, if he makes it through the primaries.  Since it is likely he will not, and that the base will likely choose between either Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, or Russ Feingold, I would pick McCain as the runaway favorite -assuming Republicans are smart enough to nominate him.

John McCain.

Good running mate choices Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Mark Sanford.

20 votes so far.  If a poll like this had been done in this forum a year ago (maybe even 6 months ago), I can't imagine it going this long without any votes for Allen.  That's a stunning turnaround in the conventional wisdom.

McCain clearly has the best chance of any individual as of right now.

I voted Gore.  If he runs, he'll be the favorite to win, in both the Democratic nomination and the general election.

Mark Warner has to have the best shot for the Dems, while McCain would be an ideal Republican choice, his age and maverick reputation could disqualify him.

The far left liberals that vote in the Democratic primaries will vote for Hillary or Al Gore before they vote for Mark Warner
