For each party, they run Best popular vote / 2nd best popular vote.

The Democratic ticket is LBJ / FDR
The Republican ticket is Nixon / Harding

I hardly think this is an all-star ticket (Jesus I think Harding sucked), a real all-star ticket would be this (mainly saying who boosted the party the most, not necessarily vote getting)

Democratic Ticket: FDR/Truman (I guess they were real running mates)
Republican Ticket: Reagan/Lincoln

Here's my map, the race is 2004 just to say it happened today:

Lincoln wouldn't be in the Republican party of today... just as I doubt any of the 19thC Dem presidents would be Dems.

Putting Nixon or Harding on any ticket now would be the kiss of death.

Nixon = Watergate
Harding = Depression

That is what the public perception at this time is.

The Republican Party proudly claims Abraham Lincoln as one of their own, and rightly so.

The party of Lincoln, Teddy, Ike, Reagan.

Likewise, they would all proudly proclaim their Republicanism today.

Oh cool, you checked it out with them?

Teddy Roosevelt's own  uncle said that he was Democrat in Republican clothing.

Ohhh luckily I had breakfast - comparing Lincoln and T.Roosevelt and Ike to a lesser extent to St Ronnie could have made me lose my appetite.

TR was definitely a Progressive Republican, but a Republican nonetheless, as the nominee in 1904, and having designs on the nomination in 1912, 1916 and 1920.

Both major parties have their various wings, and that's the way it should be.

You really think the Republican Party of 100 years ago... God, 40 years ago is the same as it is today?

I never said the Republican Party is the same today as it was 100 or even 40 or 50 years ago.  All parties evolve.  They have to change and evolve in order to remain viable.  But both major parties should be big enough and open enough to welcome and respect all who wish to have a political home in them.

I think that should be the case - but I think in the case of both parties it's become less and less possible.

LBJ/LBJ

Though LBJ was, at best, mediocre, he was still far better than Nixon and Harding, who would be #2 and #3 on my list of worst Presidents. (Dubya is #1, FYI)

That's an all-star election!? I'd hate to see your toilet bowl race. I guess I'd vote in LBJ...makes me want to chug Pepto just thinking about it, but I would go back to England before I'd put Harding into any kind of position of power.

This is an interesting race. I'd find it slightly more realistic if the seniors headed the tickets, however.
