By November 2008, the economy is still humming along as it is now though wage levels have not been raised significantly; and the situation in Iraq is pretty much the way it is now, with killings and assassinations rife as Sunni and Shi'ite thrown themselves upon each other, although with the US troop presence, the country has not descended into full-blown civil war.

New York Senator Hillary Clinton has, as expected, won her party's nomination, and at the Democratic National Convention in Denver she nominates former Virginia Governor Mark Warner as her running-mate in a bid for moderate, swing-voters.  Disgruntled progressive, anti-war Democrats throw their support behind the Green Party ticket headed by Peter Camejo of California and Winona LaDuke.

On the Republican side, Senator John McCain easily won his party's nomination (George Allen decided not to run early in 2007, given the closeness of his re-election victory over Jim Webb), and has nominated former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee as his running-mate.  Conservative Republicans and independents especially in the border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and California are dissatisfied with his immigration stance, and flock to the Constitution Party ticket headed by Pat Buchanan and his running-mate Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo.

269-269

(Nevada is trending Democratic, Kerry's increase in Nevada was larger than Bush´s between 2000 and 2004, Clinton/Warner are winning Nevada by 48.5 to 48%)

Here's my map.

McCain 276
Clinton 262

Warner won't be able to carry Virginia playing second-fiddle.

New Mexico and Nevada go to Clinton but not by much.

Ohio and Florida both stay with McCain.

McCain wins in a nail-biter.  This one won't be decided until 2:00 am Eastern Time Wednesday morning.

The reason behind McCain's win is this country wants to get away from the Bush/Clinton era that has been around since January 1981 when Bush Sr became Vice President.

I vote for McCain in a heartbeat, no thought needed.

I think we've done McCain/Hillary, the running mates don't mean that much and neither do Buchanan/Tancredo, they'll get around 2-3%, a lot in blow out McCain states like AZ and TX.  Flip the ticket around, they do much better, I also wouldn't count out NJ, ME, DE, or even CA:

McCain/Huckabee 50%
Clinton/Warner 45%
Buchanan/Tancredo 3%
Camejo/ 2%

I believe McCain would win this contest handily.

The south would remain loyal to the GOP.  Clinton would not play well in the south.  Warner may help to improve the popular vote for the Democrats in the south, but enough to win states, not even Virginia, as Warner is the VP candidate, not the candidate for President.

The west, including the southwest, goes to McCain.  He goes over well in those regions.

McCain picks up the swing states of Oregon and Wisconsin.

The election is decided largely on McCain's national security credentials.

The minor parties would be peripheral players only, and would not impact the election results, drawing only a very, very small percentage of the popoular vote.

I agree with Winfield's map as the most probable.

Clinton/Warner any day. I dont see why anyone who would have voted for Al Gore, Bill Clinton, and John Kerry not vote for her.

I'd go Clinton/Warner too, but even with Warner I think McCain would sweep her under the carpet.

As I've said in the past:  It doesn't matter who the Republican candidate is . . . they'll get my vote every time if Killary is running.

Then obviously you don't see much.  Do you really think John McCain would break a sweat against her?
