gerald ford doesnt run for election in his own right.

bush narrowly defeats reagan, dole and rockefeller in the primaries.

for vp, bush selects fellow moderate elliot richardson.

Looks about right.

Carter does well in the South, Bush in the West. The election is decided by New York and Pennsylvania, both which I believe Carter would have won.

Basically, the result is almost the same as the real 1976.

The former Congressman from Texas, former U.N. Ambassador, Director of the CIA does not have the burden of being the one who pardoned Nixon.  His choice of Richardson, the hero of the "Saturday Night Massacre" is excellent.

Richardson distinguished himself, among many other accomplishments, as the one who stood up to Nixon, and said "No, I will not do your dirty work," and people remember that about him in 1976.

Bush and Richardson swing Bush's home state of Texas and the traditionally Republican state of Ohio into the Republican column, and win a comfortable EV majority.

Bush/Richardson                292
