At this point in time, it seems this is the most likely matchup for 2008.
I'd be interested in seeing some prediction maps, if anyone cares to take a stab at it.

I agree McCain has a good chance of being the Republican nominee in 2008, however, I doubt that Obama has much of a shot at the Democratic nomination in 2008.

However, in such a match up, McCain v Obama, a comfortable win for McCain.

McCain               324
Obama               214

I would put Oregon, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and New Hampshire on the Obama side....a narrow Obama victory.

More than likely McCain/McCain. Just because he's black a lot of people wouldn't vote for him.

Those people wouldn't be voting Democratic anyway.

You'd like to think that all of them are Republican. -_-

I like Barack Obama, but his lack of experience is enough of a reason for me to vote against him and for John McCain -though there are others.

If he decides, in the end, not to run this year and save himself for either 2012 or 2016, he would be a far more formidable candidate.

McCain/McCain and this would be one instance that I'd be extremely excited to vote for McCain and see him win.

I agree 100%. I'll be very reluctant to vote Obama in 2008 due to the experience factor.

However, it's possible that if he does decide to run, it will be solely for an attempt to get on the #2 spot of the ticket. Kinda similar to what John Edwards did in 2004.

I'd vote for McCain, although I would probably mourn Obama's loss. I hope he really decides to go for it in 2012 or 2016.

Many of them are still registered Democrats in Mississippi and South Carolina. That doesn't mean that they'd vote Democrat.

Being black, Hispanic, female, etc. wouldn't hurt a Democratic candidate nearly the way it would hurt a GOP candidate simply because most of the people who would refuse to vote for a woman, a black person or a Hispanic person do, in fact, vote GOP. (The racist union vote is fairly small.)

You think that the only people who are racist in America are Southerners? Think again. Anyone from any background can be however I doubt those working men that the Democratic Party tries to portray itself as the defenders of would be any more keen on voting for a person of African descent than a Southerner would be.

Agreed. Last I checked, Indiana had the largest community of registered Klansmen.

I don't know.. the people on the Iron Range of Minnesota are pretty gruff, old fashioned people.. and they voted for Modale in '84 with a 2 to 1 margin despite having a woman on the ticket.

It would be a very tight race in Minnesota though.  Obama would have to have a very strong message.

I'm still a bit skeptical of McCain getting the nomination though.  If the establishment could tear him down in '00, what makes you think they won't do it again in '08?

McCain seems to be in a good position with a more unpopular incumbant Republican President in office. He can come in as a strong on security Republican, with moderate views as well. Add a guy like Huckabee on the ticket, and you have a good team.

That's because they could not in all honesty fathom the idea of not voting for a Democrat especially a Minnesota Democrat.

This poll kind of reminds me of the man who was arrested (this was back in the 1950s) in eastern europe, and was asked whether he wanted to be hanged or shot.

When he asked what crime he was being charged with, he was told it didn't matter (they hadn't decided yet), but did he want to be hanged or shot?

Obama/McCain, McCain/Obama.  Shot/Hanged, Hanged/Shot.

Hmm.

I don't like either option!

Obama winning Arkansas in that final prediction looks even more ridiculous, in hindsight, as all the others.

I concur. Yet another "traditional" 2008 Nasoesque map, with the exception of Maine voting Republican. Oh Naso you amuse me, as do all of those who posted EV maps of this 2008 scenario.
