Is POS an acronym for "piece of sh*t"?

Given the performance of the Dem candidate in last week's tv debate, Wilson was handed a gift.  The clips I saw were unbelievable.

ABQ poll has Madrid up by 4%. I called the race for Madrid a couple months ago and I stand by my prediction.

Only being up 2% in your own poll is pretty bad.

Actually POS has been very accurate in the past couple cycles, despite their affiliation. This is definitely a close race, I wouldn't bet on Wilson but she isn't totally doneski.

It's a released internal, so ignore.

Both parties expect this to be decided by less than a thousand votes, btw.

Nowhere near. She'll probably lose, but not by much and will probably be back in 2008.
Madrid is not a very good candidate.

Madrid is not a very good candidate.

She's supposed to be the heir to Domenici's Senate seat.

So if she loses, she's damaged. The GOP can either run her anyway, or go with a much weaker candidate for that seat and run a weaker candidate against Madrid.

You mean like how Ted Strickland was seriously damaged by losing in 1994?

Btw, it's not as though the NM Reps have many more credible candidates...

But he's running 12 years later.

What he means is that Ted Strickland lost his seat in 1994 but won it back in 1996. He made his comeback the next election.

Madrid has very big ethics issues, but she was the best the dems there could do.

Al, Dave, and jdb are correct. Wink

Madrid might, due entirely to the Iraq War, win narrowly. It certainly won't be because she's earned it by her own efforts. Tongue

And she will go immediately to the "highly endangered" list for 2008...she does not fit the district well...

Oh, the debate debacle:

From http://joemonahansnewmexico.blogspot.com/:
"FINAL JAB LANDS

The debate progressed from there with a myriad of questions--health care, education and Social Security--but blood oozed again near the end of the second half hour when mild-mannered anchorwoman Carla Aragon dropped a seemingly innocuous question on the order of: "What are the ethical implications of a politician accepting money from lobbyists and special interest groups and what do they get for that money?

"It is only to give them access," fumbled Madrid as Heather went off to the races.

"I am amazed at what I just heard...Mrs. Madrid accepted $125,000 from a casino owner in southern New Mexico who has business pending in her office. No one buys access to my office," emoted Heather as catcalls decorated the airwaves from some of the 200 partisans invited to attend the event.

Heather has already worked this issue over with a ton of TV ads, but Madrid's phrasing opened the door to renewed ethics questions, even if it is doubtful they will work any better than they already have. (FYI: I do PR work for Sunland Park Racetrack whose owner Wilson referred to.)"

WMS, who do you think would have been a better nominee for the Democrats?  Romero had two chances and did badly (he lost every county twice), and the Secretery of State (I forget her name) has far bigger ethics poblems than Madrid.

Believe it or not, I think Romero would be doing better than Madrid. He just ran in the wrong elections. Also, he suffered from some of the machine faction Dems opposing him due to some turmoil in the state legislature a few years back. Smiley

You are quite right about the Secretary of State. Grin

Hmmm...the best candidate, ABQ Mayor Chavez, wants to be Governor in 2010. Or Senator in 2008. Depends on the circumstances. Wink

Looking over the officials...the two West Side ABQ Councillors would've been decent (Michael Cadigan and Ken Sanchez) but Cadigan wants to be ABQ Mayor in 2009 and I'm not sure what Sanchez is aiming for given he was only elected last year.

Parochial, me? Cheesy

Looking around...there are good moderate Dems...outside CD-1. Tongue WAY too many lefties in ABQ. Tom Swisstack in Rio Rancho-based House District 60 would be decent.

Sh!t, James Lewis (the Dem State Treasurer candidate) would've been good too, but he's busy salvaging that race for the Dems.

I might have missed some noble soul who isn't in office right now...

Thank you, one last question.  Did Madrid seem like a good candidate when she entered the race or was that to block the Secretery of State who I believe was considering entering this race.

From the outside perspective, it might have seemed like a good candidate. I never thought she was a good choice, but she was better than Rebecca Vigil-Giron and better than the other person making waves about entering the race, ultra-leftist State Senator Gerald Ortiz Y Pino in Senate District 12. The better candidates didn't run...a common problem in NM. Wink
