Smith seems like a good guy. I'd gladly vote for him over Obama.

I'd vote Smith though I'm troubled by his recent comments.

i think a smith/pawlenty ticket (or vice versa) would be damn near unbeatable.

Smith getting the nomination is unlikely and if Bayh was to be the Dem nominee (a little less unlikely), it would be close.

Well, that's great but that doesn't mean a landslide. It's like saying, "Old Johnny Edwards wouldn't even carry his home state." in a General against John McCain meaning a McCain landslide.

Against Gordon Smith? I would be shocked if he didn't.

Why would you be surprised that over hyped Obama wouldn't win so easily? Do you not understand that just two years ago this man was still in the Illinois State Senate? Do you really think he'll ever have an easy time winning the Presidency?

Against Gordon Smith? A boring fellow with a bad hair peice who has now enraged his own party? If he was against him..yes, I think he would have a pretty easy time.

Oh, I can't wait until everything comes out about Obama. His star is going to come crashing down. It'll be hilarious.

I can't see a moderate libertarian Republican senator from Oregon getting very far in the GOP primary or the general

Oh, I can't wait until everything comes out about Obama. His star is going to come crashing down.

Everything is already out there. He smoked pot and snorted cocaine in high school. That is really the only dirt on him and it's been out since 1995.

It's been out since 1995 and how many people have cared since then? Wait until things like that and his not that centrist record becomes more well known nationally.

Why don't you give us some of the details if there is so much dirt on him?

Ha most people in America can relate to that...whether they admit it or not.
It's honest and I salute his honesty.

Well, you won't find it to be dirt but the whole drug situation and his very liberal record (I believe I heard that he was rated in the top five of most "progressive" Senators) will show people that he is not this moderate, perfect guy. The fact that he has no real accomplishments hurts, too.

and you think evan bayh, a bad imitation of a republican, is going to get anywhere in the democrat primaries?

obama is the democrats flavor of the week.  they will drop him after he underperforms (johnny edwards, remember him?)

but, yeah, smith needs a new hair piece.  the one he has now just isnt working.  it is awful.

i tried to watch him on that abc sunday morning program, whatever that damned thing is called, and i couldnt pay attention to what he was saying.  my eyes were glued on his hair.  i was just wondering how much courage it takes to leave the house with that rug on.

The good thing about this matchup is that it would be between two sane candidates. The GOP has not put up a candidate for the Presidency who is "all there" since Bush Sr. ran for reelection.

I recall Reagan Raider saying Smith has no principles and he votes however people tell him to vote.  (I hope that's not the case)

(perceivably) a pushover v a liberal-both equally as bad in my eyes.
