What makes you think Gore would lose Pennsylvania?  Not that I don't think you have a good reason, just wondering.  He won in it by 5 in 2000.

Pennsylvania has many social conservatives. It was the third-closest Democratic state in 2004, when they ha a north-easterner on the ballot.

Incumbent Bush:

Incumbent Gore:

Gore wouldn't have done great in 2004 regardless as to whether or not he had been elected in 2000. Had he been running as the challenger, he would have to have made up an excuse for turning into a one issue environmentalist...and would have spent more time revamping his image rather than winning people over. If he were to be president during 9/11, there is a good chance that he would not have taken military action. Some say this is a positive...but keep in mind how popular the decision was when Bush made it. He would be painted as weak and would lose to Bush's "tough on terror" campaign.

Against Afghanistan? Bullsh**t. After the second tower was hit, everyone within the federal government knew that once Al Qaeda was established as the perpetrator, the Taliban would also go down. To say that Gore was some liberal pussy is nothing short of asinine. Gore was one of ten Democratic Senators to vote in favor of Operation Desert Storm, a much more controversial action (at the time) than Afghanistan in 2001. There's no way in hell Gore would have ignored the advice of the CSG, which I believe Clinton created.

I think Gore may have lost in 2004, but to McCain...not Bush.
