Hillary vs McCain

The time leading up to the election process would be absolute hell for me, simply because it would be competitive, ferocious and just not fun. It would be especially bad if McCain got elected, I would be fine with Clinton.

I would agree with this. I would probably vote Libertarian if these were my options. That almost hurts to say.

Mitt Romney v. Hillary

Thankfully I expect Bloomberg would definitely run, so I'd vote for him.

Out of candidates who are or have been perceived as viable:

Edwards vs. Huckabee or Romney

Out of fringe candidates:

Kucinich vs. Tancredo

Historical - Pat Robertson v. Jessie Jackson '88

Current viable - most difficult of lesser of two evils: Hillary v Guilianni

Current viable -worst choices Hillary v. Huckabee  (holding my nose and voting for the democratic monarchist).

I'm only going to go realistically because I don't really see a point in discussing scenarios that are impossible.

Anyway, Hillary v. Romney is the worst one I see. Edwards v. Romney would be pretty bad as well. I would have to write-in or vote third party in both of those scenarios.

Hillary Clinton being nominated for the Democrats.  I will have to vote Republican in this case, as will many other Democrats that I know.

The nightmare scenario is the one that is likely to emerge; Clinton vs McCain. A nightmare only in so far that it could be a Republican blow-out. Independents will break heavily for McCain and, despite poor relations with elements within the GOP, they'll unite against Clinton

The one blessing being that I don't doubt that McCain is 'up to the job'

It's the very thing I warned against back in 2004, following Bush's re-election, the nightmare 2008 scenario of a Democrat, perceived as being liberal facing off against a Republican, perceived as being moderate - and the Republican winning and winning big

Clinton and McCain might be my 'annointed' ones but, Democrat Smiley that I am, I hope to God I'm wrong on this scenario but emphasise that the only nightmare would be the extent of McCain's victory rather than his victory as such

The silver lining is that it's early going, anything can happen ...

Huckabee vs. Hillary. A creationist who wants to abolish the income tax or Joe Lieberman in drag? No thx.

Obama vs. Romney.

I cringe saying this, but I'd probably vote for Romney in this scenario.  This is probably the only way I'd vote for Romney too.

Between both parties, what is the worst scenario for candidates in your opinion?

For me, if the '08 campaign came down to McCain vs. Clinton I think I would stab myself in the face.

I'd already posted about McCain vs. Clinton long ago.  And not about the possibility, but the probability.  But I won't stab myself in the face.  I'll do what I did in 2000:  vote for a different candidate.  Usually we have anywhere from 5 to 12 to choose from, so don't break out the whetstone just yet.

Clinton vs. McCain, realistic

Tancredo vs. Gravel unrealistic, because Tancredo becomes president, and Gravel looses.
