Adapted from a National Geographic map (that used dots over cities)

Blue = more single men than women
Red = more single women than men

I always wondered why Minnesota women were flocking to Fargo, ND.. must be all those eligible farm boys.

Actually, this likely has to do with the fact that populations in the east are older, so many of those single women are actually widows while in the west, there tend to be more immigrants, which tend to have a high concentration of young men... and the populations are younger in general, and believe it or not, there are naturally in a given population about 105 baby boys born for each 100 baby girls.

I'm not 100% about Deleware actually. Dover has more single men than women, but the Philadelphia metro area has more single women, and since Wilmington is in the Philly metro, it could mean DE has more single women.

National Geographic explains the difference as having to do with illegals being mostly male and college grads being mostly female. (to overly paraphrase)

As with most red v. blue maps, this is very misleading. It's roughly the same all over the country as there are not that many polygamists to skew the equation.
