As with the national trends, most suburbs are now voting DEM. The Milwaukee suburbs thought, remained strongly GOP, even with the landslide of Obama in 2008, only 13 counties in Wisconsin voted for McCain and among them are the Milwaukee suburban counties, voting around 60% McCain. I'm talking about the WOW counties (Washington, Ozaukee and Waukesha). Basing on the recent trends, the GOP is slowly losing it's grip on those counties as those trended DEM in 2016. Do you think these counties would start voting DEM soon like say in 10 years time?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but what's the deal with the WOW counties? Why are they so much more conservative than the suburbs of Chicago, Detroit or the Twin Cities?

I've heard both the popularity of talk radio and religion (this region is referred to as a "Catholic Belt" I think) referred to as reasons.

Why would white liberals want to live in WOW when they could just live in Dane?

The Milwaukee suburbs are more exurban than other close in suburbs of the Midwest, have very few minorities, little loyalty and dependence on their central city, largely UMC, highly religious and listen to talk radio all day.

Almost no chance of any of them voting for a Democrat for the foreseeable future. Though margins could continue to decrease.

It is interesting how Wisconsin is like the only state in which the 2018 midterms and post 2016 special elections have largely followed pre-2016 voting patterns with some adjustment.

There is actually a pretty Democratic mostly white and affluent part of the Milwaukee metro including some suburbs although it's obscured by the county boundaries, basically the northern part of Milwaukee County that sits between the predominantly black northwest part of the city and Lake Michigan. There's plenty of upper class white liberals in the Milwaukee area, they just avoid WOW.

I was wondering, if these 3 counties can collectively outvote Dane?

No. But I believe the GOP winning margins in the WOW Counties will shrink over time.
