I think DeFazio will probably run if there is enough financial incentive from the DSCC - that was what kept him out of the race against Smith in 2002.  A DeFazio candidacy would probably change the race rating to Toss-up or perhaps even Lean Democrat.

I am starting to get the feeling that he is going to run after all. It's almost like deja vu with current situation with DeFazio and Claire McCaskill and Sherrod Brown in '05. Chuck Schumer is one persuasive guy who can raise a sh**t-load of money and is also extremely politically skilled. I think at least a few of his dream candidates who origianlly said that they would not run (Mark Warner, Jean Shaheen, DeFazio, etc) will end up running.

Even if DeFazio jumps in, Dems are couting their chickens before they hatch

They do have an awfully large amount of eggs, though. Wink

That wasn't a mistake, you can use chicken in that analogy, your implying with that the Dems are counting wins before they come just like an egg might not become a chicken

DeFazio will run and very likely win. Goodnight.

Such a shame. I've always liked Smith.

You didn't understand what I meant.  The statement that someone's counting his chickens before they hatch is saying that you don't know exactly what you'll get until the time comes.  I was saying, however, that they have an awfully large amount of eggs in this case, implying that the chances are good that they're likely to get a lot of chickens even though no eggs have hatched yet (i.e., that their chances of winning this race if DeFazio runs appear pretty good).

I didn't say Smith will lose, I just said he will be in a tough election fight. Whoever the Dems nominate will have to raise some serious case in order to unseat Smith, unlike they did last time. Oregon like its incumbant senators no matter which party they are from.
