Michael Ancram, Con, Devizes

On the left of the party and, according to the Parliament site, an Earl.

A Scot, although you'd never guess from listening to his voice.

He's been around a long time; briefly held Berwickshire and East Lothian (I think that's the name of the seat anyway) in the 1970s, then elected in Edinburgh, where he lost his seat in 1987. He then found a safe seat at Devizes in 1992.

Once upon a time he might have been on the left of the party (I think he may have supported scottish devolution in the 70s), but he was close to Hague and Howard and is probably seen as an 'ancien regime' figure by the Cameroonians.

He ran for the chairmanship after 2001, and he certainly didn't run on the left of the party.

I'm probably confusing him with Malcolm Rifkind. Apologies.
