This is where all the speeches, voting, etc will occur... if you needed any further proof that this thing acctually will happen, here it is.  I should have everything done by tonight and we should be rolling by tomorrow or Wed.

Next time we do this, it shouldn't take nearly as long since, amoung other things, I will already have at least half the non-player Cardinals made up (at most half will be replaced, depending of the length of the papacy of the winner here).

Announcer: … and as you can see, again the Cardinals are assembling in the Hall of Blessings at St. Peter’s.  This is traditional.  This is done before, as we mentioned previously, before they walk, in procession to the Sistine Chapel where the secret balloting will take place.

*Cardinals start moving forward*

Announcer: And we can now see the procession is moving towards the Chapel.  They are being led by Cardinal Dean LaCroix , who is also the Prefect of the Doctrine of Faith, which was the post held by Benedict XVI before his elevation to the Papacy and on that theme we will now turn to Richard McBrien, author of Lives of the Popes and many other books on the Catholic Church.  Mr. McBrien, thanks for joining us.

McBrien:  Thank you.

Announcer:  I’ll start out with the first and most obvious question.  What are some of the factors weighing on the minds of the Cardinals in this Conclave?

McBrien:  Well, first off, Vatican II is still an important issue in the Catholic Church, even now, 40 years later.  Many people in the Church feel like the nature of the reforms, how wide sweeping they should be, has not been fully nailed down yet.  Both Popes John XXIII, whom I regard as being the model Pope, and Paul XI took many steps towards liberalizing the Church.  Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI were both of the mind that some control needed to be restored to the Church, and they started to reign in a number of those reforms and tried to lock them down.  There are prominent Cardinals on both sides of this issue.

Another very important issue in this Conclave is the expansion of the Church into lands that are not traditional Christian.  This expansion of the Church, combined with its declining status in many Western countries is going to be foremost in the mind of the electors who are involved.

*Goes to shot of inside of the Sistine Chapel, electors are beginning to sit down*

Announcer:  The Cardinal Electors are being seated now.  We want to ask just one quick question of you before proceedings continue.  How is this election different from that which elected Benedict XVI two years ago?

McBrien:  Well, first of all, Benedict’s death came as more of a shock.  There was a “stealth campaign” even before John Paul II’s death to subtly organize support behind Cardinal Ratzinger.  Benedict was chosen as a safe choice and while no one expected to have to be back here this quickly, I think they have been thinking, in the back of their minds about who they want to succeed him.  That being said, I doubt there has been anytime at all to put together any kind of seriously organized effort behind any one candidate, so I expect that we will see a more wide-open Conclave here, which might produce a more surprising result.

Announcer:  Well, thank you Mr. McBrien, we will be hearing more from you later in process.

McBrien:  You bet.

Announcer:  We will now listen to the Vienna Boys Choir sing the hymn Veni Creator Spiritus a classic Gregorian Chant.

*hymn sung*

Announcer:  And now, Cardinal LaCroix will speak to the College of Cardinal, and to the world.  We will translate for you.

LaCroix:  May the Holy Spirit be with us today and for all the days to come.  I ask, each of you, to pray earnestly for the guidance of the Spirit in making casting your votes.  I know that no man can fully put aside his prejudices, his doubts or his past in making his decisions in life, but I would hope that each of you makes an honest effort to listen to the direction of the Father and our Lord Jesus, through the Spirit.  Should one of you be chosen, I ask you to remember the words and teachings of John Paul II.  “Be not afraid and go forward knowing that God is with you.”  God Bless us all.

Archbishop Jan Larsen: Extra omnes!

Announcer: And that is Archbishop Larsen, Master of Papal Ceremonies, giving the traditional order, “everybody out”.  All the non-Cardinals, including Archbishop Larsen himself, must now leave.  So our cameras are off inside the Chapel, but our coverage of the events will, obviously continue.

The first order of business before the Cardinals will be to vote on whether or not the tradition of total seclusion from the media will be observed in this Conclave.  Voting will now begin.  "Yea" enforces the ban.  "Nay" disposes of it for this conclave.  Keep in mind, this still won't allow the media in the Sistine Chapel.

From there, we will move to any opening remarks that any Cardinals may wish to make, but such remarks will be limited to a few sentances, as, per Cannon Law, we must have one ballot completed before the end of this day, which is within 5 hours.  The voting may proceed.

Sorry, my fault. I'd filled out the forms so I thought I was in, but it's fine, I understand the numbers game.

Alright, we will prepare to proceed to the first ballot.   Would any Cardinals liek to make any brief statements before we proceed?

You may speak now.

And remember, keep them brief.

Dear brothers,

I shall heed the advice to keep this brief. It is my hope that this process is carried out in the most appropriate fashion. Let us keep the Holy Spirit in our hearts and in our minds throughout this vote, accepting the guidance granted to us. May our Father look upon us with pride as we, His servants, chose our Earthly shepard who is to lead us closer to the heavenly kingdom.
