If there was any more way to make that seat even more likely to go Dem, that's it. Hell, Udall would probably be as safe as Reed in that scenario.

That would be outright "DUMB."

Plus Schaffer would destroy him in the primary as long as James Dobson stays the hell out of it.

It would certainly make me a huge fan of Schaffer's candidacy.

Disaster.  If you're hot for the Republican Party in Colorado's ultimate disintegration, then Tancredo is the man.  He's the reason the GOP in Colorado is just now getting off the mat and he would cripple the party with a run.

He's already said no to running and it's looking like he won't even run for his house seat.  He's in a very safe district and so it'll stay red--but happily without Tancredo.  He could potentially win the GOP nomination against someone like McInnis or Suthers, but he'd get smoked in the general election.

This is a race for the grown ups.  Best let Schaffer take his whacks.

Despite Tancredo's national constituency, his chances at winning the Senate seat in 2008 are very unlikely.  He could probably raise a bit of money, but his firebrand image and unfair designation as a one issue candidate would greatly damage him.  Tancredo can do more good as a Congressman instead of a former Congressman turned unsuccessful U.S. Senate candidate.
