At what point in the primary process will John McCain face the inevitable and drop out of the running?

Or, do you disagree with the premise of this question?

Please discuss.

If he consistently comes in third and fourth throughout the early primaries, he'll probably make a last ditch shot at Super Tuesday. If he can't win anything substantive, he'll drop out.

Although it's obviously not the 'inevitable.' We're six months out from Iowa. John Kerry at this time in 2003 was dead in the water. Hell, most pundits were declaring Bill Clinton to be finished two weeks before New Hampshire with the breakout of Gennifer Flowers.

But he's still ran an absolutely idiotic campaign. He's essentially became a cheerleader for the President's two most unpopular policies: Iraq and Immigration. Even if he wins the Republican nomination, the Democrats should be able to take him down relatively easily (with something like 'a vote for McCain is a vote for four more years of George W. Bush').

He'll drop out right after he loses New Hampshire.

I could see that happening, too. His funding will dry up further the worse his poll numbers get. McCain so far has been spending more lavishly than anyone while steadily declining in the polls; his campaign simply can't afford to lose donations. I predict McCain to drop out some time between October and December. If not then, definitely before February 5, 2008.
