Governor Tommy Thompson of Wisconsin enters the 1996 election, and takes with him a great deal of “Old Guard” Republicans as well as those born of the 1994 Republican Revolution. After a big win in Iowa over Dole, Buchanan, and Forbes, Thompson is able to get the needed momentum to win the nomination. Governor Thompson selects former Governor and Secretary of Education Lamar Alexander for Vice-President.

The Democratic Party selects President Clinton and Vice-President Gore for a second term, and saddles them with a platform praising their accomplishments and condemning the GOP for the “reactionary anger” that led to the 1995 government shut down.

How does the 1996 election play out with Governors Thompson and Alexander jousting against the giants of President Clinton and Vice-President Gore?
