https://ballotpedia.org/Wyoming_State_Senate

Quote
The legislature approved Wyoming HB100 on March 11. The bill added one Senate seat and two House of Representatives seats to the state legislature.

I noticed that in the 2022 state senate elction it said that there was a new seat in the senate, but this is all I could find about that news. I have no idea when the last time a state grew/shrunk it's legislature so I'm surprised this flew so far under the radar

NY added a seat in its state Senate in 2010.

NY has a really bizarre process for determining the number of State Senate seats.

How so?

Some law from the 1800s based upon county population ratios that is somewhat arbitrary that made some sense before Sims required deviation to be only 10% between districts, but makes zero sense post Sims.

I did (as someone who has turned into a semi-compulsive reader of Ballotpedia's "Population represented by state legislators" page in recent months). I just didn't think it was newsworthy.

Well, there was something like a third of a century where the NY Senate was the only one of the 99 state legislative bodies to change in size.

I noticed many years ago that no state legislature changes the number of seats that it has as often as North Dakota. Here has been the number of seats in the Senate/House of ND ever since Reynolds v. Sims 60 years ago (according to Wikipedia page "Political Party Strength in North Dakota.")
1965-1966 -- 49/109
1967-1972 -- 49/98
1973-1976 -- 51/102
1977-1982 -- 50/100
1983-1992 -- 53/106
1993-2002 -- 49/98
2003-present -- 47/94

I imagine it flew under the radar in part because the legislature is so heavily represented by one party already and has rarely been competitive in terms of overall control, so what difference did it make if they added a few extra seats?

Kinda a small note but in the last four years the only area outside the big cities with democrats in the legislature, Green River/Rock Springs, and Lander, lost re-election in the last two cycles

Two Senate seats and one House seat for the coal industry. (I understand the coal industry owns a lot of bodies, minds, and souls in Wyoming, too. But the ones in Congress are the only ones they care about.)

They needed to add another senator and two representatives to accommodate and properly represent this bustling metropolis:

It’s probably because they wanted to keep all the rural seats rather than cutting a rural seat and giving it to Cheyenne or Laramie.

I was just in Wyoming a few days ago. It seems like it would be very difficult to draw a map of the state with more than like 5 districts. It gets to the point of medium-sized towns having like 4 legislative districts each, which seems silly.
