Israel has the capacity to kill every living thing in Gaza a very short time frame, the fact that they haven't done that proves that that's not what their intentions are.

Quote
In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part,a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

http://www.preventgenocide.org/law/convention/text.htm

That’s not happening in Gaza.

Biden is not going to endorse the attempt by the ICC to create a precedent for universal jurisdiction. He's far too smart for that. One of the many reasons he still has my vote.

He didn’t have to endorse it. Even if he were determined to protect Netanyahu’s personal safety, he could still have chosen to say less, instead of threatening what is supposed to be an independent judicial process - a process which would not, in any case, legally bind the US or Israel.

The only thing the prosecutor’s request (which is not equal to an indictment) threatens is the dignity of the accused parties. Yet, the administration felt compelled to defend the honour of a man who works to undermine US elections, a man who humiliates and sabotages the administration at every turn. Biden self-immolates for Netanyahu’s marginal gain, and the tragedy is that innocent people get caught in the blaze.

Good for Biden.  He's right here.  The move by this Kangaroo Court is simply a manifestation of hate for Israel.  Israel is a democracy and the courts in Israel are functioning.  Israel is clearly the attacked nation here; the actions of this Kangaroo Court put Israel in a position of not being able to defend itself.

Peace in Gaza is dependent on Hamas surrendering.  Period.

The US seems willing to do anything to protect Israel, even when they've done absolutely nothing to deserve that level of support. Absolute insanity, and the only real solace here is that Biden is all but certainly the last Democratic president who will be able to afford to be this pathetic on this 'issue'.

This is not about Israel . The ICC has tried to investigate multiple American officials before but we made it clear that if they did try to arrest an American official we’d do anything in our power to get them back .

So yes we’d have the same position on all our Allies about this given our own personal position on it

Hopefully this bill easily passes congress .

I think it gets at least 350 votes, easily. Republicans despise the ICC, and if Biden gives the nod to support this bill, it won't face more than token opposition. 400 is probably more likely than 300.

He didn't have to say anything at all. This is absurd.

I don't understand why the United States is expected to take so much damage to its international position and internal politics, all for the sake of Netanyahu and his band of lunatics. Is there a more one-sided American alliance? We damage our relations with half the world over this and pour billions of dollars in, and get nothing in return.

We shouldn't send another dime to Israel until the settlement program ends and those calling for permanent Israeli control over Gaza are removed from office.

And before any of the Netanyahu-bros start complaining: This does not mean that I support the Palestinian Authority, Hamas, Iran, or any other terrorists you'd care to bring up. The fact that Israel is better than its F-tier neighbors does not mean that they are entitled to unlimited amounts of American support.

This will signal to the world that the US and it allies doesn't respect international laws.

It will be hugely damaging the US's moral authority.

Incredible to think that the US (or any country) refusing to respect international law is a good thing.

But I do appreciate you taking the mask off, as people put it.

A bad decision increasingly out of step with the American public, let alone the rest of the world.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/642695/majority-disapprove-israeli-action-gaza.aspx

Israel needs to act and remove this lunatic from office and actually deal with the terrorist group he helped cultivate. Instead of this intractable, opaque war said lunatic is afraid to end because he doesn't want elections.

Israel does not have to be a pariah.

It's kinda funny that you consider yourself a realist on foreign policy when here you're explicitly making the argument that we can't support Netenyahu's arrest because it would make us look like hypocrites if they ever tried to arrest an American and we objected.

Seems like even Justin Trudeau has joined Biden in condemning the ICC. Pleasantly surprised by Trudeau here

Pathetic move from Biden. All that energy wasted. Americans need help.

Especially since Putin can now easily also evade the arrest warrant without loss of reputation or prestige loss, since well his big enemy isn't taking ICC seriously.

Also how ridicilous is it that as a nation you are sanctioning an international independent organisation that hasn't committed a criminal act... .

Nobody is going to take this serious and USA will actively obstruct international organisations once again. Why did people vote Trump out. This is just more of the same ("NATO bad", "UN is a joke", etc that kind of stuff).

Maybe the US needs to stop being part of international organizations if they have no intentions of obeying or engaging with them anyways. A problem they already have for over a century given the failure of League of Nations too.

The USA has been giving a great gift or way out for Putin and that all because Biden feels such a strong need to protect Bibi... who clearly ordered at the very least war crimes.

The Hague Invasion Act authorizes the US president to use any means necessary to prevent the ICC from putting politicians from major US-allied countries, including Israel, on trial.

Really not sure why Biden's reaction would come as a surprise to anyone. If he didn't condemn the ICC here, it would destroy all credibility the US has as being willing to defend its allies.

The US' most valuable allies recognize the ICC and look on such "law" as the thuggish assertion of brute lawless power that it is. It's nothing but empty chest-thumping for a domestic audience and if anything it does far more to harm the US' international standing than to enhance it. It's time to decide if you actually want to be the leader of the free world or just another bully in a world full of them.

In order to stand up to Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Sudan, and Myanmar, we have to join them in not belonging to the ICC, you see.
