I must Jas I know you must have negotiated for 2nd place or something but you could have had a shot there.

No such negotiation took place. There was no such deal.
In fact, I thought you might have had a deal given your last few rounds - when all you have done is chase after me.

At any rate, the situation was quite hopeless after you were eliminated. Given my number of reinforcements, I couldn't see any movement that would sufficiently impact his following reinforcement figure such that destroying me would become unlikely.

I would have attacked into the Midwest, but given his positioning of 10 battalions in Nebraska and 11 in Montana, there was no attack into that region I could make without bringing either of these into play, rendering such a move completely counter-productive.

I could have chased after the Southeast, but there was no way I could hold it, or indeed defend any other of my territories. I would have been immediately and decisively overrun.

I could consider a Southern offensive towards the Southwest - however again, this wouldn't impact hugely on his reinforcements and I would again be defenseless in the Northeast. There was also no guarantee that I could make the Southeast.

I could have tried to hold the 3 state border I had, but splitting my troops up would have meant ease of access past and destroying my reinforcements for the next go by taking out everywhere behind the defensive line.

So, I placed 1 in Ohio to make a small attack to gain a Risk Card, and to try and take out regional bonuses in the Southeast and South; and placed the remiander in New York because holding the Mideast is impossible, and defense works better with a concentration of troops - which can't be by-passed.

Not perfect, I'll grant - but if anyone believes there was a better plan - I'm all ears.

After I went on that rampage (breaking his bonus in every territory) (as well as the only move to keep him from winning in short order) I expected you to sacrifice some border integrity to do the same (the natural strategy when one person becomes the outright leader) I myself had to establish some new base of power after I was destroyed in the NE, you did nothing what seemed in my mind to be the right thing, but in the end neither of us win, and only one could have in the end, so we'el fight another day.

I'd like to turn in this set:

Deploy all my reinforcements in Arkansas and attack

AR-TN-KY-OH-WV-VA-MD-NJ-DE-PA-NY-VT-NH-ME-MA-CT-RI do or die. Tactical move all from Kansas to Missouri and then end turn.

I'll comment on the game and pacts and all that when I have more time.

As for pacts I've had 3, I think, in this game.

1. With MAS at the outstart to allow me to fight Ernest.
2. With Jas, see 1.
3. With Jas after I had taken the Southeastern bonus from him the first time. The terms were that I would let him keep the Soútheast for the next turn in return for he not attacking any of my regions in his turn.

TJN made a couple of good moves, such as the berserk attack on me, but also some major mistakes, especially after he turned in his first Risk-card-set and neither attacked Jas nor established a strong defence. You also should probably have deployed your reinforcements in the Pacific after my counter-attack instead of all those aimless attacks in the Midwest.

I should also note that I don't think anyone plays Risk to get second place - there isn't really much point in that.

And, Jas, let me guess: 2 infantry and 2 cavalry cards?

I had to make a few logical assumptions with your orders, Gustaf, which I hope were correct:

AR-TN-KY-OH-WV-VA-MD-NJ-DE-PA-NY-VT-NH-ME-MA-CT-RI do or die.

I assumed that the bolded section was a mistake, and that it ought to have been "MD-DE-NJ-PA", due to border issues.

Tactical move all from Kansas to Missouri and then end turn.

I also assumed you meant 'Nebraska' here, as Kansas didn't have any spare battalions.

Whoops...yes, when I'm in a hurry the fact that I'm not American tends to shine through I guess...I always mix up Kansas and Nebraska and I did think my attack was possible, so good assumptions. Smiley

And, MAS, I got 5 cards from you and 4 from TJN, so, what can I say...I would also add that I think the artillery cards are pretty much run out.

You're welcome, guys.  I always enjoy running these games.

I'd just like to say that the discussion on Page 6 of this thread about the Black army's hopelessness is particularly amusing.  I think Gustaf's win is all the more impressive given his dramatic recovery of DanielX's position.

It did involve a bit of luck though (or rather bad luck on Ernest's side of things) and actually my position vis-a-vis Ernest wasn't as bad as it seemed.
