Either Edwards is losing his voice or he's gasping on his words.

any Dems ever wish Edwards ever tried to be a Senator, got re-elected and was running now as a second-term Senator now?  it's still easy to fall in love with him and if he had a great resume he'd be unstoppable.

Not sure he would've been re-elected to be honest. I think Edwards thought that was a big enough of a challenge not to risk it.

Loved the dramatic pause there.

“Would you allow us to be married… to each other?”

Yeah, that was one of the better made questions.

if he had been devoted to his job instead of running for president from day 1 he would have been re-elected without a major fight.

This black dood seems a little confused although his original question was good.

Kucinich seems to be the only one for full marriage.

I don't think he actually heard the answer at all.

Edwards' position seems to have been "I don't think my faith should dictate my policy decisions, but I reluctantly oppose gay marriage because of my faith.  But I'll support civil unions."  What now?

That seems to be a common position, and it still doesn't make sense to me.

Hillary's video reminded me - Chris Dodd's was good. He's had a very slick campaign, though his poll numbers don't show it.

Probably.

However, he could've just as easily become a southern Democratic version of Rick Santorum.

Jesus.  Only 5% of the Senate supports same-sex marriage, IIRC.  It's pathetic.

Richardson was more realistic and said he supported civil unions because that is all that would be possible for now....not because his faith stops him from supporting gay marriage.

I still don't totally get why that's grounds for opposing gay marriage, though...which I believe he does.

This Richardson answer is good.

I don't really blame them. Support it, and look at how fast you'd be thrown out of office. I just wish someone would be honest with why they can't support it, rather then tapdancing all around the fact that its a vote loser.

IMO, the logical thing to do is take the government out of marriage. Civil unions for everyone. This is where Obama's answer made sense, leave it up to the individual denominations.

It kind of sucks for Gravel, getting one question. But hey, maybe if he answered the questions seriously, instead of attacking everyone and everything. I'm just waiting for him to jump in on someone else's question. Tongue

Yeah, let's put our solders in another place where they'll be in harms way. They want to pull out of Iraq but go into Darfur. We're not wanted in either.
