The ILV for Re-Governor! campaign kicks off with the releasing of the first set of buttons:

which include the first slogan, "At Least Nothing Bad Has Happened!"

The buttons are also available in mini-buttons:

I most happily endorse my good friend, part colleague and great governor, IlikeVerin.

Together with Dan and I, we can continue the amazing growth and prosperity in all areas for the midwestern region, and the districts within it.

I urge all oters in the region to again support the moderate left, to work for a better future for all midwesterners, and all atlasians, due to the nation-wide roles of governors.

As governor of the Midwest Region, and in accordance with the Midwest constitution, I'd like to submit the following Regional Constitutional Amendment:

The Preferential Voting Amendment

Section I, Article I, IV will be replaced by 'Polls will open Friday at noon, Central Time, and close at noon on Sunday, Central Time.  Elections will be held using Instant Runoff Voting.'

Section I, Article I, VI will be taken out of the constitution.

This amendment will take effect by the December elections.

Also, I'd like to propose the following:

Midwest Capitol Act

The capitol of the Midwest Region shall hereby be Lebanon, Kansas.

(explanation: Lebanon is the closest town to the geographic center of the contiguous 48 United States; also, I believe that a currently non-partisan site is the best place Smiley)

(If we want the geographic center of all of the US, then Belle Fourche, SD is the place)

(If anyone else has a better idea, state it here and I'll consider it Smiley)

I think those amendements are fine. As father of the Midwest Constitution Smiley I would not mind them in the Constitution.

Actually, the 2nd one is just an Act Smiley

But I'm glad to have your support Grin

Kansas?  Can't we be a little more interesting than that?  How about Denver, CO?

What is the wording of the parts of the constitution you are proposing be changed/deleted?  I know I could go look it up myself, I just want you to be clear about what you're proposing.

Re: Denver: Because Denver has no special significance, of course Smiley

Re: Changes:

Section I: The Governorship

Article I: Election of the Governor

...

IV: Polls will open Friday at noon, Central Time, and close at noon on Sunday, Central Time.

...

VI: In case of an election tie there will be a run-off election held the next Friday by the same rules and regulations as stated in Clause IV.

I vote no on Kansas, at least make it someplace interesting.  Smiley

As for your constitutional amendment, I have a few point to make.

The Home State Voting Reform bill currently under debate in the senate, and likely to pass, states:

1. All federal weekend elections will take place over the course of 72 hours encompassing the entirety of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Forum Time.

What does this have to do with our Governor elections?  Well, our region (along with the Pacific and Southeast regions) will be holding Governor elections concurrent with midterm Senate elections.  To make things easier for the voters, I plan to offer these three Governors, yourself included, to put the Governor election in the same ballot/voting booth thread as the other elections.  The Governors are free to turn me down, of course, but I think it will be much less confusing this way.  But, if we do this, the voting time frames need to be the same.

Next point- I have no problem with adding preferential voting to our Governor elections.  But even with PV, there is still a chance a tie could occur (particularly if there are only two candidates).  I think the clause pertaining to ties should be left in.

I love that state. Smiley

Let's have it in Rapid City, the site of the first and only Atlas National Party Convention.

PBrunsel: Naw, we should do Minneapolis, the first UAC convention site Grin

However, Belle Fourche is ~60 miles from Rapid City.

So I retract my first proposal and submit this:

Midwest Capitol Act

The capitol of the Midwest region shall hereby be Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
